Position Type: Exempt Full-Time | 40 hours per week

Pay Range: $48,559.00 – $59,541.00 Annually

About this opportunity:

Develops and implements short- and long-term public relations program goals, objectives, and strategies, for special events and promoting the Corps in the community. Oversees and coordinates arrangements for special event functions; researches and secures locations, facilities, transportation, logistics and equipment; assigns volunteer duties in conjunction with the Volunteer Coordinator; monitors event functions to ensure events run smoothly and as planned; researches and secures media opportunities. Supervises the Corps Volunteer Coordinator.

Under the Director of Development’s supervision, designs, develops and presents promotional materials using multi-media formats. Serves as primary liaison with print and broadcast media with regard to the promotion of Salvation Army events, services, disaster relief, etc. Develops and maintains an effective communication plan/strategy to manage the Army’s image.

Key responsibilities:

  • Researches, develops and implements new event opportunities.
  • Discusses all new programs and ideas with the Director of Development and Corps Officers prior to implementation.
  • Establishes, interacts with and maintains committees for various special events.
  • Plans and coordinates arrangements for special event sites, equipment, transportation, speakers, food, etc.
  • Assists with the planning and coordination of annual and seasonal events not limited to but including Circle of Hope Dinner, Prayer Breakfast, Annual Golf Tournament, Gingerbread Decorating party, community parades and events, Red Kettle Program, and Angel Tree Program.
  • In conjunction with and under the supervision of the Development Director, identifies and cultivates donor and sponsor relationships for special events. 
  • Follows-up with event constituents’ post-event for feedback and data processing.
  • Serves as spokesperson for The Salvation Army when appropriate; represents The Salvation Army in a positive and professional manner.
  • Composes departmental reports, plans, and strategies as requested by the Director of Development.
  • Writes, edits, and oversees publication and distribution of communication tools including but not limited to annual reports, newsletters, brochures, films, audio-visual materials, etc.
  • Design and prepares the lay-out of documents and publications related to events while keeping them informative, interesting, accurate, and accessible to a wide cross-section of people.
  • Provides oversight and supervisory responsibilities for the Volunteer Coordinator working in-tandem to streamline, solidify and oversee the recruitment process for obtaining and maintaining a robust volunteer program that will include metric measurements.   
  • Works directly with the Volunteer Coordinator at maintaining a database of volunteers and assists with the preparation and maintenance of up-to-date volunteer event records.
  • Assists in creating various artwork for print or media; proofs pages for accuracy and consistency; utilizes desk-top publishing and scanning equipment; assists with other tasks as directed.
  • Oversees the maintenance of the ‘event content’ of the website, including videos, photos, links, event dates, etc.
  • Assesses the effectiveness of marketing mediums on all levels and for all demographic groups, presenting findings to Director of Development (events, general organizational marketing, etc.).
  • Administers and makes recommendations for the public relations/events budget.

 

 

What we are looking for in you:

Education

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field, AND
  • Three years’ experience in planning and coordinating events and/or performing public relations/marketing work, preferably in a non-profit organization OR
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Skilled in recruiting, leading, and motivating event volunteers, while fostering effective working relationships to ensure seamless collaboration and event success.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple projects and timelines, ensuring that all initiatives run smoothly and are delivered on time while maintaining high-quality standards and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge and experience in graphic design creating visually compelling educational and promotional content that aligns with brand guidelines.
  • Ability to talk to others and write materials with ‘social polish.’
  • Strong public speaking abilities.
  • Creativity and ability to conceive and pursue fundraising opportunities as appropriate.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated aptitude in working with diverse community groups, including major and corporate donors.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of public relations.
  • Ability to prepare and maintains reports in an accurate and complete manner.

 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
  • Ability to perform and complete creative tasks in a flexible manner and under the pressure of tight deadlines.
  • Ability to speak before large groups in person, by radio and television.
  • Ability to perform mathematical computations.
  • Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.
