Job Summary
Responsible for being knowledgeable of the geographical area assigned and operates the vehicle within state/federal statutes and/or guidelines. Read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public. Deliver merchandise to stores and deliver sold merchandise to customers. Perform special pickups and deliveries, pick up vehicles at the garage, and other similar activities. Clean and secure the vehicle and equipment; conduct daily inspections of the vehicle’s oil, water, tires, and other items of the vehicle to maintain good operating condition. Load store deliveries and sold merchandise on trucks in the most organized manner.

Truck Driver Responsibilities
Learn and maintain knowledge of geographical areas assigned for pickups and deliveries.
Operate vehicle within state/federal statutes and/or guidelines and in accordance with The Salvation Army’s policies and procedures. Deliver carefully and efficiently merchandise to stores and sold merchandise to the customer. Work under the Store Manager’s supervision while at the store moving furniture, loading store rag-outs and deliveries, and removing trash from the stores. Make special pickups, store deliveries, picks up vehicles at the garage, and other similar activities as assigned. Responsible for the cleanliness, safety, and security of the vehicle and equipment, including but not limited to, securing the hand truck, daily inspection of the oil, water, tires, and other items of the vehicle to maintain good operating condition. Load store deliveries and sold merchandise on truck in the most organized manner. Ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public to respond to official inquiries and to make entries on reports and records. Employees in this position must meet all DOT requirements for vehicles associated with this position at all times. Maintains a positive working atmosphere by acting and communicating in a professional manner that will establish and promote a professional working relationship with vendors, donors, customers, beneficiaries, co-workers, and management.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of assigned geographical area. Ability to work effectively and efficiently with a variety of personalities. Ability to read, write, and effectively communicate in the English language


Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED preferred but not required and one year of experience driving a heavy-duty truck or large van or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Licenses and Certifications
Valid State Driver’s License Valid DOT Medical Card
Valid Commercial Driver’s License, desired but not required.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to successfully work with a variety of personalities and people in a positive manner. Limited physical effort required associated with sitting, walking, standing, lifting, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, 75% to 100% of the work time and carrying light objects (generally less than 25 lbs.) 75-100% of work time. Work is performed in a normal store environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with weather changes.
