Job Summary:
Assists store customers in selecting and purchasing items. Operate and maintain a cash register; collect monies, count change, and prepare receipts; balance the cash register drawer and print routine register print-outs; prepare and deliver bank deposits. Respond to customers questions and assist customers who are donating items. Maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of merchandise and displays. Maintain the neatness and security of the cash register area; secure merchandise and the cash register. Clean display racks and shelves; sweep and mop floors; clean windows, mirrors, and help maintain overall cleanliness of store. Answer the store telephone in a tactful and courteous manner. 

Cashier Responsibilities 
Assists customer purchasing items from The Salvation Army by ringing up sales utilizing a cash register; collect monies, count change and prepare receipts; prepare and package purchased items; prepare and balance the cash drawer and run routine register print-outs; prepare and deliver bank deposits; ensure the security and accountability of all cash register funds and sales records in accordance with established Salvation Army operating procedures. Prepares, process, and maintain various sales records, tax forms, and social service vouchers; prepare routine sales reports. Maintains the neatness and security of the cash register area; ensure that forms, bags, and other similar items are adequately stocked. Display and arrange merchandise as directed; check all displays to ensure that items are maintained and displayed in a neat and orderly manner; rotate and/or rearrange stock as directed; return items to the proper location after customer’s have handled. Answer the store telephone in a tactful and courteous manner; assist customers by responding to questions and providing directions and/or general information; may schedule and record donation pick- ups. Clean all display racks and shelves; sweep and mop floors; clean windows and mirrors; ensure that the store is maintained in a clean and inviting manner. Understands the mission of the Adult Rehabilitation Centers and be able to clearly communicate the mission to customers. Maintain a positive working atmosphere by acting and communicating in a professional manner that will establish and promote a professional working relationship with vendors, donors, customers, beneficiaries, co-workers, and management. 


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of effective customer service techniques. Knowledge of the principles and practices of basic mathematics. Ability to read, write, and effectively communicate in the English language. 

Education and Experience:
High School diploma or G.E.D. preferred and experience working in a retail store preferred or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to successfully cook, taste, and smell food. Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to servings and cooking instructions. Duties are usually performed by frequent walking and/or standing with some bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, kneeling, squatting and carrying light objects (usually less than 25 lbs.) 15-75% of work time. There will be some brief periods of sitting. Work is performed in a kitchen environment where there may be limited physical discomforts associated with working around hot stoves/ovens and/or cold freezers.
