Job Title:  Sorting Room Worker

Location:  Howard County Service Center     

Position Type:  part-time with benefits (25 hours/week), non-exempt

Pay Rate:  $15.00/hour    

About this opportunity:

The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Sorting Room Worker at the Thrift Store in Howard County.  The Sorting Room Worker is responsible for delivery of excellent customer service while receiving and assisting with donated goods, keeping accurate counts of donations, cleaning, pricing, and sorting goods, while maintaining a clean and safe work area.

Qualified candidates will:

• Receive, inspect and sort donated items such as clothes, shoes, household items, bric-a-brack, etc. according to the category and condition.
• Select items suitable for store display and distribute same to appropriate area for further sorting and/or pricing, discard items in accordance with established procedures.
• Tag items with specially coded tickets and/or prices in accordance with established procedures.
• Hang clothes on hangers and place same on clothes racks.
• Pack items in boxes and mark boxes accordingly, assist in transporting boxes to appropriate storage area.
• Prepare non-suitable clothes for the baler.
• Lift and carry items to the appropriate destination for further processing, storage or display in store.

What we are looking for in you:

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Certifications/Licenses:

None

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Ability to meet attendance requirements.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
• Ability to learn and concentrate.
• Duties are performed seated or intermittently sitting, standing or stooping
• Occasional lifting of light objects (less than 25 lbs) and occasional lifting of objects 25 to 50 pounds may be necessary.
