Kitchen Assistant-Seniors Program
Location: The Salvation Army, Oklahoma City
Position Type: Non-exempt (hourly), Part-Time (up to 20 hours per week)

About this opportunity:
Prepares for and accepts meal deliveries from RSK (Red Shield Kitchen); prepares food items that will be served in addition to delivered meals; prepare dining room for meals and assists in dining room and kitchen clean-up; cleans kitchen equipment and washes dishes; sweeps and mops dining room and kitchen floors.
Essential Functions

Food Preparation and Serving (60%)
Prepares and serves food items that will be served with delivered meal such as, but not limited to, snacks, salads, beverages, and deserts in accordance with acceptable and economical cooking methods; washes and chops fruits and vegetables; prepares beverage.
Serves meals ensuring appropriate portions are provided; prepares plates for persons requiring additional assistance.
Cleaning and Janitorial (40%)
Washes, dries, and stores pots, pans, plates, glasses, cups, bowls and utensils; gathers and prepares items that are to be returned to the RSK ensuring that all are properly washed and ready for pick up the following day.
Cleans tables, chairs, floors, dishes, utensils, kitchen appliances and condiment holders
Sweep and mop kitchen and dining room floor daily
Cleans refrigerators, freezers, ice machines, coffee makers, stoves, and ovens
Stocks food, beverages, and supplies in an orderly and safe manner
Empties trash cans and ensure they are cleaned daily
Performs all kitchen work in accordance with health regulations as it relates to food preparation, food serving and storage
Maintains orderly freezer and walk-in storage units; cleans and defrosts as needed.
Stores, refrigerates, and freezes foods in a safe and economical manner; monitors expiration dates on all foods ensuring proper disposal of food with expired dates.
Maintains a high degree of cleanliness in the kitchen and dining room; ensures that all meals are prepared in a safe manner; ensures all kitchen personnel and volunteers practice proper personal hygiene; monitors the work of volunteers in the kitchen; ensures compliance with health regulations.
Coordinates with the Senior Center Coordinator for needed supplies
Performs other related work as required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of proper cooking methods and procedures
Knowledge of acceptable food storage and cleaning techniques
Knowledge of cleaning practices, methods, and techniques
Ability to prepare nutritional, tasteful, and safe food for large groups in a timely manner
Ability to wash dishes, kitchen appliances and equipment
Ability to properly clean kitchen and dining area
Ability to read, write and communicate the English language
Ability to cook, taste and smell food
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Education and Experience
High School diploma or G.E.D AND one year experience working in a kitchen OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
Certifications/Licenses
Food Handlers License – or ability to study and pass test to obtain
Safeserve Training and License – or ability to study and pass test to obtain
Drivers License preferred
Physical Requirements
Ability to meet attendance requirements
Duties are usually performed by frequent walking and/or standing, kneeling, or squatting
Working Conditions
Work is performed indoors in a kitchen environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with extreme temperatures working around hot stoves/ovens or cold freezers, noise, chemicals, fumes, and the like.
