Position Title: AFTER SCHOOL WORKER/DRIVER

 

Position Type: Part-time

 

 

About this opportunity:

 

Leads children’s activities at an after-school program including classroom training, tutoring, assists with homework, sports activities, bible study, computer programs and specialized programs; prepares and serves children snacks; assists in leading field trips; maintains the cleanliness of the after-school area.

Drives a Salvation Army vehicle to transport passengers from school to the Salvation Army facility for after school care. 

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Provides constant care for the needs of the children in an efficient, clean, loving, safe, secure, and healthy manner.
  • Develops and implements lesson plans which are age-group program specific; utilizes age-group appropriate discovery areas, enriched with program-specific activities, including teacher-made materials and hands-on activities
  • Provides homework assistance as needed.
  • Determines appropriate supplies and materials for lesson plans and recreational activities; ensures the children's safety in utilizing the same.
  • Provides opportunities for physical and mental stimulation through both inside and outside learning activities.
  • Prepares and serves children snacks; ensures that children receive nutritional and tasteful food; provides positive, relaxed atmosphere during children snack time encouraging conversation.
  • Exhibits control of the children and when needed displays proper discipline techniques.
  • Maintains the afterschool materials in an orderly fashion; maintains accountability for any, supplies necessary for after school programs.
  • Cleans the kitchen, classrooms, tables, floors, etc. in accordance with established sanitary standards.

 

  • Prepares and maintains up-to-date records and required reports (attendance, development progress, discipline reports, etc.).
  • Assists in leading children on field trips.
  • Ensures the accountability, security and safety of children participating in after school activities and field trips; reports all accidents to the supervisor in an accurate and timely manner.

 

What we are looking for in you:

 

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. required,

and

  • two years’ experience teaching child development programs in a church,

or

  • any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

Licenses and Certifications:

 

  • Valid state driver's license
  • C.P.R. and First Aid Certification

 

Knowledge, Skills and abilities:

 

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of Child Behavior and Development.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of First Aid and C.P.R and ability to ensure the safety of children.
  • Ability to teach children Christian values as well as general childhood education curriculum.
  • Ability to plan, develop, and implement effective childhood programs and activities.
  • Ability to become and remain certified to drive a Salvation Army vehicle per Salvation Army insurance requirements.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

 

  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
  • Ability to observe children and ensure their safety.
  • Duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis
  • Work is performed in a normal camp environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
