The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Corps Director of Development for the Durham Corps, located in Durham NC.
Job Summary: Plans, develops, and coordinates all phases of donor development and the solicitation of financial support for The Salvation Army programs, services, and raising funds for capital campaigns for the Corps; Serves as liaison to the Divisional Headquarters Resource Development and Planned Giving Departments. Plans, develops, and coordinates public relation programs with the media, private and public sector organizations and churches ensuring that The Salvation Army maintains a favorable and positive image in the communities and for both internal and external audiences. Serves as liaison to all media ensuring the desired message is communicated; photographs and writes articles covering Salvation Army events; strengthens communication with donors, prospective donors, corporations, volunteers, media personnel, civic club leadership and local government leadership.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of The Salvation Army mission and philosophy. Knowledge of modern fund raising and public relations principles and practices. Ability to solicit and secure funding support from organizations, individuals, churches, etc. Knowledge of the community and its needs. Knowledge of the principles and practices of public relations. Ability to project a professional image of The Salvation Army and to support fund-raising efforts. Ability to present information about The Salvation Army’s programs and needs to generate fundraising support Ability to assist the Commanding Officer in tracking the status of capital campaigns. Ability to build professional working relationships with contacts in the community. Ability to develop effective public relations materials increasing awareness of The Salvation Army programs and services,
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Relations, Business Administration, Non Profit Fundraising, or related field, and Three years experience working in a fund-raising position, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS: A valid Driver License.
MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to speak before large groups in person, by radio and television. Ability to travel to various locations in order to participate in public meetings, conferences, etc. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time. Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
