Basic Qualifications
Education/Training: A Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field of study required. In lieu of a bachelor’s degree consideration will be given to individuals with a High School Diploma and a minimum of five years of directly related commercial lending or banking industry experience.
Skill(s): Above average skill-set proficiency in reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics; strong interpersonal relations, communicative, and sales skills; expert level knowledge of the bank’s commercial products and services; a strong working knowledge of bank operating policies and procedures which impact commercial services; above average skill level in using a personal computer for word processing, spreadsheet documentation and financial analysis; visual and auditory skills; valid driver's license.
Experience: (3) Three to (5) five years of commercial portfolio experience is normally required.
General Responsibilities
The Portfolio Manager is responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient support of the Commercial Relationship process. Manages and coordinates all required activities to support the Commercial Relationship Manager(s) and meet the commercial services needs of our present and future business customers; complies with operational policies and procedures; effectively communicates with bank management, staff and external business clients.
Essential Duties
- Coordinates the workflow for Commercial Relationship Manager(s) by ordering and reviewing commercial loan document packages throughout the underwriting and closing process. Maintains adequate documentation to ensure compliance of bank policy with regards to proper collection of all necessary notations, forms, agreements, and signatures of commercial loan documents.
- Communicates verbally or in writing with commercial customers and all associated parties, both internal and external; including attorneys, title companies, and insurance companies involved in the loan closing process to resolve questions regarding information submitted during the underwriting process.
- Communicates with the borrower and all associated parties, both internal and external, to resolve outstanding issues regarding booked and closed loans including lien and recording perfections.
- Assists the Commercial Relationship Manager(s) with tracking and assembling loan files, clearing loan/documentation exceptions, and processing loan advances, disbursements, construction draws, and payments.
- Serves as the primary contact person to assist the Credit Quality and the Loan Servicing with documentation collection for loan information and updates for designated commercial loans requiring annual reviews and renewals.
- Reviews and comments on the Credit Analysts’ prepared analysis of company and personal financial statements, repayment ability calculations, and written reports to facilitate sound credit decisions.
- Submits financial statements and customer related documents to the respective Credit Analyst to ensure those documents are included in the existing commercial loan files.
- Joins the Commercial Relationship Manager(s) in meetings with prospects/clients and otherwise substitute in his/her absence in sales activities and meetings.
- Assists Relationship Manager(s) with the completion of their initial Credit Quest (CQ) Loan Submission Package (LSP).
- Supports the management of commercial construction loans including ordering and reviewing inspections, providing updates to the Commercial Relationship Manager, ensuring draws adhere to budgets, managing change orders and disbursements.
- Supports the management of reserve accounts required to escrow for funds maintenance, taxes, insurance and PIP.
- Responsible for the timely completion of CAR and ACAR reports.
- Provides consistent, superior quality service by preparing, monitoring, and maintaining documentation used for internal and external reporting purposes.
- Communicates with Borrower and Loan Records Department regarding the release of real estate for construction and development loans. Assumes responsibility for ensuring pay down, partial release, and release of lots, including order of paperwork and maintenance of spreadsheets for commercial lenders.
- Maintains a good working relationship with bank employees in other departments. Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently, as well as motivated to work as a team player to contribute to the success of the department and in turn, the organization.
- Supports positive business growth throughout the bank by being observant and taking action on potential cross-selling opportunities and providing proactive communication to potential customers and your internal business partners.
- Works closely with the Credit/Collections Department on any credit which needs extra attention or has the potential to be a “watch list” loan.
- May be assigned a portfolio of loans for which all business operational activity needs to be completed including reviews, renewals, collection/workout/ and/or other special needs
- Communicates and provides reports and other documents to Executive Management, special committees and other management personnel as assigned or upon request.
- Supports Commercial Relationship Manager(s) sales efforts and processes including preparing prospect/client communications, research, follow-up, and reporting.
- Performs other responsibilities related to the commercial lending process as required.
- Abides by the current laws and organizational policies and procedures designed and implemented to promote an environment which is free of harassment and other forms of illegal discriminatory behavior in the work place.
- Cooperates with, participates in, and supports the adherence to all internal policies, procedures, and practices in support of risk management, safety, soundness and the Bank's compliance with all regulatory requirements, e.g. Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Equal Credit Opportunity Act (Reg. B), Flood Disaster Protection Act, Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (Reg. C), etc.
Ancillary Duties
- May attend sales and trade meetings as a bank representative to develop new business and to gain information and leads on new business relationships.
- May represent the Bank in public relations and related community activities.
- Performs tasks which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job, but which may be altered or re-designed depending upon individual circumstances.

Full Time Employment Benefits: Fulltime hourly-paid employees will be provided 12-days of Paid Time Off (PTO), that is accrued 1-day for each month worked. After the completion of 90-days of employment accrued PTO can be used for any purpose including being paid for absences or vacation time. At the end of the first year of employment, any unused PTO will be converted to the employee’s sick time accrual. Sick time will begin accruing effective on the employees first year anniversary up to 120 days. At that point, PTO is no longer available; and any paid absence will be eligible under the sick, vacation, personal and family sick pay policy. After one year of service the employee is eligible for their annual vacation benefit.
Salaried-paid employees are not eligible for PTO and accrue paid sick days at 1-day per month; and any vacation time that has been approved for the 1st year of employment.
12 paid holidays, 2 Personal days, 2 Family Sick days, 2 Volunteer Days after completion of 90 days of employment. Eligible for Health Care, Dental and Vision (single and family) the first of the month following 30 days of full-time employment. 401(k) eligible on the first day of the month following 30 days of employment with employer match available. This position is salary and not eligible for overtime.
Salary Range
Minimum: $58,656
Maximum: $101,200
