Product Data Decision Science Manager
Location: Hybrid Work Model – Van Wert, Ohio or Dublin, Ohio
The Product Data Decision Science Manager position is a great opportunity for a career data scientist to take their first step into people leadership, but without losing the hands-on experience that attracted them to the role in the first place. You will mentor the next generation of data scientists through direct mentorship and feedback, drawing upon your own successes in the field.
As a Product Data Decision Science Manager, you will be a valued business partner among CL & PL leadership, delivering advanced analytic products that meet the current and future strategic visions of both groups. You will also have the opportunity to influence the department’s short- and long-term strategic goals.
You will lead and mentor the efforts of your team to ensure a timely delivery of advanced analytic and modeling solutions. Both through example as well as feedback/mentorship, you will perpetuate Central's core values of Integrity, Relationships and Excellence.
How You Will Make an Impact
- Lead and develop others by building skills through coaching, mentoring, and ongoing training & development
- Foster strong and meaningful relationships within the team, across the organization, and with our corporate partners
- Informs and implements operational objectives, policies, procedures, and work plans and delegates assignments to the team
- Manage the data analysis and design of analytics products, with mentorship and input from a Sr. Data Science Manager or Director of Data Science, across a focused area of the Central Insurance business value stream to enable data driven business decisions that will drive performance and lead to the accomplishment of annual goals
- Translate complex business requirements into data requirements and work with internal partners to build datasets which suit stakeholders and support superior model performance
- Assist in building end-to-end advanced predictive analytic solutions to inform product strategy and address business partners’ needs
- Analyze existing datasets and analytics solutions to understand and document current state data architectures and capabilities for the specific use of the data science community
- Advance existing data systems, analytics capacity, and business rules to enable new capabilities and foster best practices and standards
- Support data architecture decisions that enforce consistency across the data landscape with an emphasis on single sources of truth
- Thoroughly document data architecture solutions, business requirements, training material and business processes for both business and technical audiences
- Support adoption of and socialize data products with end users through user training
- Leverage frameworks for repeatable validation of data integrity within data products supporting accurate and consistent reporting and analytics
- Support standard methodologies in data analysis: data integrity, unit testing, data quality control, system integration testing, modeling, validation, and documentation
What You Will Bring
- Master’s or PhD degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, or related field and 3 years of related experience
- Or Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, or related field and 5 years of related experience
- Or 6 years related experience
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong data visualization development experience
- Ability to set priorities and plans to meet business goals and objectives
- Ability to shift & balance strategic, high-level thinking with attention to detail
- Ability to lead, motivate & influence without having formal authority
- Ability to act as a thought leader with a focus on innovative & high-quality solutions
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment with internal /external customers
- Strong organizational, planning & problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate with stakeholders and business partners
Preferred
- Excellent problem-solving and interpersonal communication skills
- Proven ability to deliver on commitments
- Comfortable working in a data-driven and results-oriented environment
- Experience analyzing large structured and unstructured datasets
- Demonstrated ability to build end-to-end advanced predictive analytic solutions to address business partners’ needs
- Solid understanding of various database management systems
- Experience with cloud environments
- Experience with Big Data technologies
