Aquatic Center Assistant Rowing Coach
The Aquatic Center's purpose is to provide high quality boating and safety programs through education, recreation and competition; and to bring regional and national recognition to Associated Students Inc., and Sacramento State, increasing the value of the students degree.
The Sacramento State Aquatic Center is a proud program of Associated Students, Inc. The Aquatic Center is a National Boating Instruction Safety Center located on beautiful Lake Natoma. The Aquatic Center offers a variety of classes, camps, facility reservations, team building, youth groups and equipment rentals. We are open to the general public.
The Aquatic Center offers the following activities: Sailing, Windsurfing, Standup Paddling, Kayaking, Canoeing, Outrigger Canoeing, Rowing, Water Skiing, Wakeboarding, and Jet Skiing.
SUMMARY: The Assistant Rowing Coach provides support to the assigned Rowing Coach or Coaches in collaboration with or independently. The incumbent instructs, motivates and educates athletes on the fundamentals of Olympic rowing. All duties are performed in collaboration with the Rowing Manager and other Rowing Coaches. The Assistant Rowing Coach is responsible for the education, safety, and well-being of all athletes under their care; assists Rowing Coaches in the operations and organization of rowing league races. Ensure equipment within the rowing program is maintained in collaboration with the Rowing Manager. Recommends replacement parts as needed. Develops and maintains relationships with students, athletes, parents and coaching staff. Provide support to Aquatic Center special events as required. The incumbent drives program vehicle for classes, trips or activities as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES
- All duties are performed in collaboration with the Rowing Manager and other Rowing Coaches.
- Responsible for the education, safety, and well-being of all athletes under their care.
- Assists Rowing Coaches in the operations and organization of rowing league races.
- Attend semi-yearly safety training for launch drivers and coaches.
- Ensures equipment within the rowing program is maintained in collaboration with the Rowing Manager. Recommend replacement parts as needed.
- Develops and maintains relationships with students, athletes, parents and coaching staff.
- Provides support to Aquatic Center special events as required.
- Drive program vehicle for classes, trips or activities as needed.
- Other duties may be assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current First Aid, CPR
- 2 years minimum rowing experience
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds
- Microsoft office proficiency: Word, Excel, Outlook
- California Boater Card
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Ability to maintain a Class B driver’s license and meet ASI driving criteria
- 1 year supervisory experience
- 1 year minimum coaching experience
- 4 years rowing experience
- Life Guarding certificate
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and be prepared for heat, cold, wind, and rain
- Must be able to work in an outdoor atmosphere that may involve balance (such as launch going through wakes), walking on dirt pathways, and riding a bicycle
