Associate Director of School Age Childcare

SALARY: $60,000 - $65,000/annual
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Director of Youth Development, the Associate Director of School Age Child Care is responsible for the daily operation of School Age Child Care, Teen Programming, and a Summer Day Camp. Major components include supervision and support of the School Age Child Care management team, implementation of curriculum and activities, ongoing parent communication and relationship-building, fiscal management, expansion of the Teen Department, and camp operations related to the designated day camp.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist and support the Director of Youth Development in developing, implementing, and managing the operating plan to promote programs and grow participation within all School Age Child Care programs and offsite locations, ensuring a safe, educational, social, and nurturing environment, and overseeing daily operations.
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight to the assigned day camp
- Collaborate with the Director of Youth Development to foster a culture of cause-driven work, leadership, and innovative programming.
- Build and enhance relationships with school district leadership, relevant community partners, groups, and key stakeholders to further the impact and mission of the YMCA's work, positioning the YMCA as a key community partner. Maintain effective working relationships with community partners, including school administrators, community-based organizations, town officials, and other cultural entities to enhance programming and visibility.
- Lead and administer the Teen Department at the South Mountain YMCA, focusing on growth, new programming, and community collaborations.
- Provide strategic influence in recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and training assigned staff and volunteers for School Age Child Care and Summer Day Camp. Review and evaluate the performance of lead staff and conduct regular leadership staff meetings and trainings.
- Support staff in managing licensing requirements, ensuring compliance with state and local regulations, and maintaining program standards and safety procedures.
- Provide oversight and support to staff in developing and managing department budgets related to the position.
- Lead staff in exercising sound judgment in resolving issues with parents, school teachers, and administrators, consulting with the leadership, and supporting administrative departments when necessary.
- Develop improvement plans as needed, ensuring high-quality, member-focused programs through innovative program development and ongoing staff development.
- Conduct regular site observations to ensure program quality and safety standards are met. Provide reports to lead program directors and staff, including current state, identification of issues and trends, and work with the team to analyze trends based on surveys of parents, students, principals, and staff feedback.
- Work with the branch leadership to create a philanthropic culture, raising awareness of the YMCA’s non-profit status and designing a member phase campaign focused on identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Facilitate communication and provide leadership, modeling relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
- Provide leadership and support to the Annual Support Campaign and other special events as assigned.
- Support program directors in managing and maintaining data and reports as required for assigned programs, ensuring timely delivery.
- Handle administrative duties, including but not limited to payroll, HR-related documents, accident reports, and budget management.
- Actively lead and participate in summer camp preparation, programs, initiatives, and ACA Accreditation and compliance where necessary.
- Perform other job-related duties as requested and necessary.
OTHER DUTIES:
- Serve as a member of the Key Staff team which includes regular meeting attendance and participation at branch and Association-related special events.
- Attend scheduled board or committee meetings as dictated by supervisor.
- Participate in and support the Annual Campaign and play a leadership role in this campaign at the YMCA.
- Participate in workshops and conferences that will enhance professional growth.
- Maintain professional and courteous demeanor, and positive attitude when dealing with staff, parents or members.
- Participate in required Branch and Association-wide activities and events.
- As a member of the key staff, share responsibility for the administration of the success for the overall Branch performance and help maintain a positive image for the Wayne YMCA.

BUDGET RESPONSIBILITY:
4.5 Million
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree youth development related field from a 4-year accredited college or university and/or equivalent experience.
- 3-5 years Leadership and Supervision experience in youth development
- Camp Leadership experience highly preferred
- Compliance with and maintenance of training requirements as required by the Office of Licensing- or attained upon hiring.
- Outstanding communications skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Ability to problem solve and take initiative that adhere to the purpose, mission and goals of the YMCA.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Strong computer skills, software proficiency with Microsoft applications.
- CPR, First Aid and AED certifications may be required.
- Must complete CARI Background Check, CHRI/Fingerprinting and provide proof of a Mantoux test within two weeks of hire.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to manage and supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations.
