POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Responsible for the instruction of Martial Arts classes for Children and Adults of all ages. Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Create lesson plans to ensure skill progression for all ages advancing in belt levels.
Plan and communicate belt-testing event to promote students within the class.
Plan and prepare skill progression specific to martial arts for each class.
Instruct martial arts skill progression for all ages advancing in belt levels.
Ensure students are using proper form and structure.
Responsible for martial arts students’ supervision and safety.
Accurately track class attendance.
Provide parent communication through daily connections, orientations and class overviews.
Complete skill evaluations for each student in class and keep skill cards up to date for class selection
and progression awards.
Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.
Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Minimum 18 years of age.
2. High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
3. Six months or more of related experience preferred.
4. Martial Arts Instructors must demonstrate competence through completion of appropriate training
sanctioned by a recognized Martial Arts National Governing Body.
5. Positive attitude and previous experience with children and adults and diverse populations.
6. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications preferred.
7. Complete online Child Abuse Prevention training prior to first day. Complete other online and in-person training as required.
