Day Camp - Teen Leaders Camp Coordinator

YMCA Buffalo Niagara operates Outdoor Adventure Day Camps.  Camp activities include swimming, nature study, hiking, archery, gaga pit games, arts & crafts, and more.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Plans, organizes, and implements the Leaders in Training (LIT) or Counselor in Training (CIT) Programs at Day Camp.

GENERAL WORK SCHEDULE:  

Monday – Friday, up to 40 hours per week, while the camp program is in session.  Must be available to work between the hours of 7:00 am and 6:00 pm.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Develop and implement the weekly schedule of activities for the assigned program.
2. Provide daily direction and leadership to program participants.
3. Evaluate program participants on a weekly basis and maintain records.
4. Identify and resolve problems. Implement the appropriate discipline techniques and procedures.
5. Pursue innovative and creative ways to implement program components.
6. Ensure effective communication with staff and parents of campers.
7. Develop and maintain positive, open communication between campers and camp staff.
8. Participate with campers when needed, including in the pool during swim lessons and free swim.
9. Maintain policies, procedures, and regulations as stated by YMCA Buffalo Niagara and the NYS Health Department.
10. Perform administrative functions as assigned.
11. Establish weekly CIT meetings for program planning and evaluation.
12. Set up and organize equipment and supplies for camp activities.  
13. Follow department protocol to clean and disinfect commonly used surfaces. Maintains the cleanliness and organization of program areas. Enforces PPE compliance.
14. Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and field trips as scheduled.
15. Implements ongoing safety checks to ensure a healthy and safe camp environment.  Implement emergency procedures when necessary.
16. Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. One or more years of experience as a Senior Counselor or other equivalent position.
2. Excellent leadership and communication skills.
3. Able to successfully plan and lead activities for pre-teen and teenage children in a camp environment.
4. Must be at least 21 years of age.
