YMCA Camp Kenan (CampKenan.com) overlooks beautiful Lake Ontario on 50 acres near Barker, NY.

YMCA Camp Weona (CampWeona.com) is nestled among 800 acres of hills and forests in Gainesville, NY.

Camp activities include swimming, archery, low & high ropes challenges, climbing wall, gaga ball, arts & crafts, nature, science, and more.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for the successful operation of the summer overnight camp program at YMCA Camp Kenan. Plans, organizes, and implements activities, provides direction, supervision, and support to overnight camp staff, performs administrative tasks and

GENERAL WORK SCHEDULE:

This is a residential position where food and lodging are provided during hours of work. The work week follows the camper session which begins each Sunday and ends on Friday with a 24 hour break in-between. Dates of employment include a week of training starting June 22, 2025, 7 weeks of program, and concludes on August 16, 2025.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Plan and implement camp activities as per the program design.
2. Train, supervise, direct, and evaluate program staff. Participate in the selection process to identify the best camp staff. Manage the staff schedule to ensure staff to child ratios are met.
3. Plan and facilitate components of the pre-camp staff training program.
4. Provides for and organizes equipment and supplies for camp activities.
5. Ensure effective communication between staff and parents of campers.
6. Develop and maintain positive, open communication between campers and camp staff.
7. Implement and maintain work rules and regulations as required by YMCA Buffalo Niagara and the NYS Health Department.
8. Maintain the cleanliness and organization of program/work areas. Follow and enforce camp protocol to clean commonly used areas.  Ensures PPE compliance.
9. Pursue new and innovative program initiatives.
10. Participate with campers when needed in the pool during swim lessons and free swim.
11. Oversee and perform the administrative functions including attendance, camper development, program planning, and evaluation.
12. Perform the responsibilities of the Overnight Camp Director during absences.
13. Implement ongoing safety checks to ensure a healthy and safe camp environment. Implement emergency procedures when necessary.
14. Performs additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must have at least 24 weeks of previous administrative or supervisory experience in camping or equivalent experience acceptable to the NYS Commissioner of Health.
2. Must have a Bachelors’ degree or be at least 25 years of age to meet overnight camp regulations.
3. Strong leadership, communication and organizational skills.
4. American Red Cross, American Health Association, American Safety & Health Institute certification in CPR/AED (Adult, Child, Infant).
5. American Red Cross Responding to Emergencies is preferred.

Daily pay rate: $100
