POSITION SUMMARY:
The Child Watch Lead provides a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment for children while their parents or guardians participate in YMCA programs. This role provides training, leadership, and guidance to child watch aides, enforces policies and procedures, and ensures program quality.
GENERAL WORK SCHEDULE:
Up to 20 hours per week. Flexibility to work a variable schedule and availability to work weekends is required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Child Supervision & Engagement:
- Actively supervise children, ensuring their safety, well-being, and engagement at all times.
- Plan and facilitate age-appropriate activities, games, and crafts that promote social, physical, and cognitive development.
- Implement positive behavior management techniques in accordance with YMCA values, ensuring a respectful and inclusive environment.
- Lead by Example:
- Serve as a role model for all Child Watch staff by demonstrating professional behavior, upholding Y values, and fostering a positive and inclusive environment.
- Address staff performance issues promptly and communicate any concerns to the supervisor.
- Work collaboratively with other staff members to ensure smooth operations and coverage during Child Watch hours.
- Safety & Cleanliness:
- Ensure the safety checklist is completed daily, thoroughly address any safety concerns, and escalate issues to the supervisor as necessary.
- Maintain a clean and organized child watch area.
- Staff Training & Development: Train and mentor all Child Watch staff on department procedures, safety protocols, and job responsibilities, ensuring they are well-prepared to provide a high-quality experience for children and families.
- Resource Management: Monitor the condition of supplies, toys, and equipment, and communicate inventory needs or maintenance requirements to the supervisor to ensure a well-equipped and safe environment.
- Communications & Member Relations:
- Respond promptly and professionally to member concerns or complaints, resolving issues effectively while maintaining excellent customer service and strengthening member relationships.
- Build positive relationships with parents/guardians, providing updates about their child’s experience and addressing any questions or concerns.
- Record-Keeping: Accurately log children’s check-in and check-out times and ensure all required forms are completed and up to date.
- Emergency Preparedness: Respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies, including administering first aid and following YMCA emergency procedures as needed.
- Training and Meetings: Attends staff meetings and training sessions as required.
- Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Age Requirement: Must be at least 18.
- Experience: Prior experience working with children in a childcare, educational, or recreational setting is preferred.
- Certifications: First Aid certification is required within 90 days of employment.
- Leadership & Interpersonal Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to interact positively with children, parents, and staff.
- Dependability: Punctual, reliable, and able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
