Sr. Manager, Corporate Communications

Xencor is a public, clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company located in the Los Angeles area (Pasadena) and in San Diego. Our focus is developing high-potential XmAb® bispecific T-cell engagers and additional engineered drug candidates that leverage our differentiated technology platforms, and we are advancing our pipeline toward clinical proof-of-concept decisions. Our goal is to create high-impact therapeutics for patients with cancer and other serious diseases. This position will be based out of our Pasadena, California office and is a hybrid position with 4 days a week on site.

 

Summary:

Responsible for supporting overall business image, strategies and objectives through internal and external communications tasks and contributing to departmental projects and activities.

 

Job Duties:

Communications Strategy

  • Contributes to the design and implementation of a strategic communications program that expands and enhances the company’s reputation and builds greater awareness and alignment with external and internal stakeholders
  • Informs and updates employees on corporate strategy, operating goals and other updates, and improves information flow and cross-functional collaboration
  • Partners with department leaders to support their communications needs, including scientific/medical presentation development and review

Content Development and Channel Management

  • Develops corporate content, including press releases, scripts, website content, Q&A documentation and presentations
  • Manages external website, social media platforms, employee intranet, town hall meetings and internal newsletter, including drafting content and coordinating with contributors
  • Applies brand guidance for the creation of Xencor-branded materials and ensures compliance

Broad Communications Support

  • Supports day-to-day activities, events and special projects of the Corporate Communications and Investor Relations and Corporate Strategy departments, coordinates schedules and prepares background materials for spokespeople
  • Maintains investor relations and public disclosure databases
  • Supports employee engagement activities in partnership with Human Resources
  • Oversees media monitoring and reviews news sources for competitive information, industry trends and strategic opportunities
  • Adheres to all department and company-wide policies regarding conduct, performance and procedures
  • Performs other duties as required.

 

Education/Experience/Skills:

Position requires a bachelor’s degree in business, biology or other scientific field, communications, journalism, advertising/public relations, or related field and at least 6 years of communications experience in a corporate and/or agency setting within the biopharmaceutical industry.

 

Position also requires:

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to translate scientific and medical information into clear, compelling messages and copy
  • Strong understanding of the correlation between business strategy and communications
  • Ability to interact effectively at all levels of the organization and with external constituencies
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Exceptional project management skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, SharePoint, WordPress and social media platforms
  • Prior experience with graphic design is a plus
  • Ability to work after hours, including weekends as needed
  • Ability to travel to investor/medical/scientific conferences, as needed
  • Ability to demonstrate competencies applicable for job based on Xencor’s Leadership Competency Model

Physical, Mental and Environment Demands:

The physical, mental and working environment demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the primary functions of this position.

 

The physical demands of the office are normally associated with extended amounts of time sitting and using office equipment, including a computer, keyboard and mouse, which can cause muscle strain. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk and sit. Periodic light lifting of supplies and materials may apply.

Occasional travel may be required, including travel between Xencor’s Pasadena and San Diego offices. Work for this position is generally performed at Xencor’s worksite and requires full-time commitment.

 

Expected Base Salary Range:  $144,000 - $168,250

The actual salary will be based on the selected candidate’s qualifications, including skills, competencies, education and experience. Xencor offers a competitive total rewards package including 401k match, healthcare coverage, ESPP and a broad range of other benefits.  In addition, this position will be eligible for an annual bonus and equity grant.
