POSITION SUMMARY

The Accountant II performs accounting functions, including reconciliation of general ledger accounts, month-end accruals, closing and report preparation, analytical review of revenue and expenses and liaison with program managers, grant reporting, budget preparation, and participation in the annual audit.

 

Salary $66,560

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field plus a minimum of 5 years of accounting experience is required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, excellent verbal and written communication skills, analytical and problem solving abilities, and the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment is also required. Experience working for a Not for Profit and with Microsoft Dynamics GP is preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Analyzes revenues and expenses to ensure they are recorded properly on a monthly basis.

Prepares and analyzes financial reports on a monthly basis and meets with departments to discuss results, trends, ongoing activities and potential problems and solutions.

Records the month-end accruals for applicable department(s).

Prepares monthly account reconciliations for assigned general ledger accounts. Researches outstanding/reconciling items.  Books correcting entries.

Assists with forecasting financial results.

Prepares monthly billing for applicable services provided and monitors collection of accounts receivable.

Prepares grant contract applications, financial reports, requests for proposals and budget revisions for applicable state and federal funders.  Maintains organized filing of grant contracts, communications, and grant reporting for applicable programs.

Maintains and updates the department's master grant schedule and updates any funding changes when recording the month-end accruals.

Trains applicable department staff in the proficient use of budgeting tool and other applicable financial systems.

Assists in the preparation of the annual budget for department(s). Ensures that revenue is accurately budgeted, including projected units and rates, and salary, benefit and all other expenses are appropriately budgeted.

Participates in the annual audit, including preparation of the Federal OMB Uniform Guidance and State Single Audit Act schedules and any other audit schedules as needed.

Continues to develop knowledge and understanding about the history, traditions, values, family systems, and artistic expression of groups served as well as uses appropriate methodological approaches, skills, and techniques that reflect an understanding of culture.
