Job Summary:

Our Manager of the Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Department is vital to our daily operational success. This role is crucial in serving our internal customer, Ground Handling Operations, by overseeing all maintenance and administration of Ground Support Equipment used in our airport operations.

 

Role Impact: Managing GSE Maintenance involves strategic planning and coordination to ensure equipment availability and reliability, while ensuring compliance with all safety and operational standards. You will lead a team of technicians, providing guidance and direction in equipment maintenance (preventive and repair), equipment life cycle management, parts ordering and inventory, work order management, and financial management. You will work with other GAT departments and external vendors, ensuring effective communication and collaboration to support continuous safety and operational efficiency.

What It’s Like to Work as a GSE Manager

Overview: The GSE Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the Ground Support Equipment (GSE) department. This role is critical to the overall success of airport operations, requiring a blend of strategic planning, leadership, and hands-on management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership: Lead and train a team of technicians, offering guidance and direction in both preventive and repair maintenance.

  • Operational Management: Oversee daily operations of the ground support and equipment department. Responsible for station operational KPIs such as equipment out of service time and operational uptime metrics.

  • Lifecycle Management: Oversee the entire equipment lifecycle, including parts ordering, inventory management, work order processing, and financial oversight.

  • Strategic Coordination: Ensure effective planning and coordination to optimize equipment availability and reliability.

  • Compliance and Safety: Strictly adhere to all safety and operational standards.

  • Collaboration: Foster effective communication and collaboration with other GAT departments and external vendors to support continuous safety and operational efficiency.

Physical Requirements:

  • Extended Activity: Stand and walk for extended periods.

  • Physical Strength: Lift 70 pounds or more.

  • Auditory and Visual Abilities: Respond to audible alarms and spoken voice; maintain close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to detect depth perception and adjust focus as required.

Qualifications:

  • Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license.

  • Age Requirement: Minimum age of 18.

  • Language Proficiency: Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.

  • Experience: 8-10 years in Ground Support Equipment management or related field.  Aviation industry a definite plus but not a must.

  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to manage and lead technical teams.

  • Safety Knowledge: Strong understanding of safety regulations, shop management, maintenance protocols, and operational procedures in a maintenance facility and industrial environment.

  • Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Budget Management: Proficiency in managing budgets, operational planning and prioritization.  Ability to track and improve total spending. 

  • Adaptability: Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders and adapt to changing operational needs.

  • Technical Skills: Comfortable working with computers, mobile devices, tablets and specialized tools.

  • Drug Screen: Ability to pass a drug screen.

  • Credentials and Clearances: Eligibility to acquire needed credentials and clearances (FAA, TSA, Port Authority, U.S. Customs, and U.S. Postal, as applicable).

  • Flexible Schedule: Our business is 24/7, 365.  It demands a willingness to potentially work various shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
