Job Summary: The Assistant Terminal Manager is responsible to support the Terminal Manager in overseeing all daily operations at their assigned location.  This position ensures efficient, safe, customer-focused terminal operations while managing personnel and resources, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements, and optimizing terminal performance to meet operational goals 
 
Essential Job Functions:

Responsible to assist in the oversight of all daily operations at their assigned terminal

Develops, implements, and oversees the implementation of new procedures to increase efficiency

Drives organizational culture and ensures that all staff members are functioning cohesively

Maintains strong customer relationships with plants, dairies, and vendors

Maintains necessary records for the terminal

Works closely with all other WDT locations to ensure cohesiveness throughout the organization

Creates and monitors KPI’s for terminal location and communicates areas of improvement or commendation

Responsible for taking calls after hours and on weekends to ensure continued customer service at all hours

Works with the terminal manager to complete yearly evaluations and set goals for employees

Travel within designated region 

Responsible for the collection of drug and alcohol screening tests and maintaining certification per regulations

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Organizes and oversees the schedules and work of direct reports 

Directs assigned tasks and provides assistance as needed

Recruits and interviews prospective employees and chooses the best applicant based on skills, knowledge, and abilities required for the job

Provides orientation and training for new employees

Directs assigned tasks and provides assistance as needed

Completes performance evaluations that are timely and constructive

Communicates expectations, coaches for improvement, distributes discipline as necessary according to policy

 

Required Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent

Valid Driver’s license in state of residency with acceptable driving record

Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and submit to the company random 
drug and alcohol program

Proficiency in basic computer skills including Microsoft Office applications and Google Workspace

Ability to lead and influence others 

Exceptional problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple projects

Excellent written and verbal communications skills

Ability to work any schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays and  travel as needed

Flexibility and adaptability to handle changing operational demands and priorities

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Transportation or Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field

3+ years of leadership or operations experience

Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with tank endorsement

Knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, and OSHA regulations

Physical Demands: Must possess mobility to work in an outdoor setting and in an office setting and use standard office equipment including a computer; operate a motor vehicle and to visit various locations; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone. This is mostly a general laborer classification, standing in outdoor work areas and walking between terminals, maintenance shops, and Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) operating areas for long periods must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

 

Work Environment: The duties of this job are performed in an office environment, a CMV Terminal environment, and outdoors, thereby experiencing some minor to moderate level of noise due to office/CMV equipment.  Must have a working knowledge of and physically utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) to limit or prevent occasional exposure to various severe climate conditions, lighting conditions, fumes, dust, odors, oil/grease, and gasses.
