Maintenance - Tanker Fleet Manager - Cabool
Position Summary:
The Tanker Fleet Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day management and operational performance of Western Dairy Transport’s tanker fleet. This includes overseeing the scheduling, maintenance, and compliance of tankers, ensuring fleet safety standards are met, and optimizing operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in fleet management, excellent leadership skills, and a strong understanding of transportation regulations, especially in the dairy and liquid bulk industry.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Organizes and oversees the schedules and work of direct reports

Directs assigned tasks and provides assistance as needed.

Recruits and interviews prospective employees and chooses the best applicant based on skills, knowledge, and abilities required for the job.

Provides orientation and training for new employees.

Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.

Communicates expectations, coaches for improvement, and handles discipline and termination of employees as needed according to policy
Essential Job Functions:

Fleet Management:
-
Monitor fleet performance metrics, and maintenance records.
-
Ensure all tankers are properly maintained, meet safety standards, and comply with federal, state, and local transportation regulations.

Plan, prioritize, assign, review the work of trailer fabricators and technicians
-
Monitor routine inspections to ensure the cleanliness and integrity of food grade tank trailers.

Safety & Compliance:
-
Ensure that all fleet operations comply with DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations and other relevant safety standards.

Monitor and enforce safety protocols related to dairy product transportation, and vehicle inspections.
-
Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and training to ensure compliance and minimize incidents.

Conduct inspections to ensure all mechanical and electrical systems are in accordance with DOT and WDT requirements.

Monitor compliance for accuracy in sanitation guidelines and federal and state regulations.

Apply knowledge of DOT, EPA, ICC, and OSHA rules and regulations.

Fleet Maintenance & Budgeting:

Develop and manage a comprehensive fleet maintenance schedule to minimize downtime and repair costs.

Work closely with the maintenance team to address any mechanical or technical issues with the fleet.

Create and manage fleet-related budgets, ensuring cost-effective maintenance and operational practices.

Reporting & Documentation:

Maintain accurate records of fleet performance, maintenance schedules, and regulatory compliance.

Provide regular reports to senior management on fleet performance, operational issues, and cost management.

Maintain accurate records of maintenance and cleaning activities.

Qualifications:
Required:
-
High School Diploma or equivalent
-
Valid Driver’s license in state of residency with acceptable driving record.

Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and submit to the company random drug and alcohol program

Minimum of 5 years of experience in fleet management, with at least 2 years in managing a tanker fleet or similar transportation industry experience.

Strong knowledge of DOT regulations, transportation safety standards, and the logistics of bulk liquid transport (especially dairy products).
-
Previous supervisory or managerial experience, with the ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team and operational staff.

Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to analyze and improve fleet performance, operational costs, and safety metrics.
-
Proficient in fleet management software, scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Excellent problem-solving abilities and the capacity to make data-driven decisions.

Strong commitment to safety, compliance, and quality service.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with flexible hours and on-call availability as needed.
Preferred:

Degree in logistics, transportation management, business administration, or a related field

Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with tank endorsement from state of residence

- This is mostly a general laborer classification, standing in outdoor work areas and walking between terminals, maintenance shops, and Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) operating areas for long periods must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision especially when working on electrical systems, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus and make out small details. Hearing abilities to differentiate between sounds or locate the source of an unusual sound.
- Communication: Ability to speak with internal customers to determine the nature of the problem or to explain the work performed. Ability to discuss work with other technicians or supervisors. Ability to make self understood as well as be able to understand what others are saying.

Work Environment: The duties of this job are performed in both a shop and office environment, a light industrial environment, and outdoors, thereby experiencing some minor to moderate level of noise due to equipment. Exposure to various climate conditions, fumes, dust, odors, oil/grease, and gasses. A technician must be focused on safety and works with a variety of potentially harmful substances, and the equipment can pose dangers if not handled properly. Must be safety conscious and willing to follow all safety rules at all times to protect themselves, their coworkers, and their customers.
