SUMMARY: Uses CAD equipment to provide support to development by preparing routine layouts, detail drawings, assembly drawings, sketches, and diagrams. Details to include all views and dimensions necessary for manufacture. Must be able to use PDM software for document control and maintain information regarding revision history. Possesses a solid understanding of drafting techniques and familiarity with engineering terminology with emphasis in ASME Y14.5-2009.  Makes decisions but refers questions/problems to supervisor. Possesses mechanical aptitude with ability to complete basic mathematical calculations. Has familiarity with CAD/CAM.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop 3D CAD designs using computer assisted design/drafting software (Creo CAD) along with various hand measuring tools as well as FARO EDGE arm and PolyWorks Inspector metrology software. Utilizes knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, materials, and other physical sciences to complete drawings.
  • Creates 2D prints and revises production drawings consisting of detail, source, specification control, kit, altered item, envelope, and assembly drawings with 95% accuracy using Creo.
  • Converts existing production drawings to Creo.
  • Inspects prototype parts to ensure compliance with drawings and documents using standard reports using measurement equipment to include FARO EDGE arm and PolyWorks Inspector metrology software in support of Supply Chain.
  • Evaluates new to current stock parts to aid sourcing in cost savings by utilizing measurement equipment to include FARO EDGE arm and PolyWorks Inspector metrology software in support of Supply Chain.
  • Executes form/fit/functions of components (comparing similar component offerings) on provided vehicles utilizing supplied tools and equipment in support of Supply Chain.
  • Develop inspection fixtures by using tolerance from 2D print, in support of quality control.
  • Design and develop Prototype Quality/Durability testing fixtures by using 2D prints or customer supplied parts in support of Supply Chain and Quality Control with little to no assistance.
  • Using 3D models developed, print rapid prototype/production parts in support of Engineering and Sales utilizing Markforged or OBJET printers.
  • Provide training to new hires.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Drafting and Design or related field
    • or an additional 4 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree.
  • Understanding of manufacturing techniques as it relates to materials and tolerances for development of technical data packages.
  • Proficient in operating PTC Creo CAD Software and PTC Windchill PLM/PDM Software.
  • Proficient with Dassault Systèmes SOLIDWORKS.
  • Proficient using more advanced measuring instruments to include CMM/Portable CMM (e.g., Faro Edge).
  • Proficient using more advanced measuring software (e.g., Polyworks Inspector, Faro RevEng).
  • Proficient with Additive Manufacturing (3D printing) as it relates to material selection and orientation on the print bed.
  • a Rockwell hardness tester.
  • Proficient in operating a Instron Universal Testing Machine.
  • Proficient in Fabricating Prototype Quality/Durability testing fixtures by using supplied tools and materials (drilling, light machining, welding, bending, shearing, grinding, etc.) to save cost and expedite the process for development of said fixtures.  
  • Experience with Passenger Cars, Light Trucks, and Heavy-Duty vehicles, ability to replace most components in support of validation activities.
  • Less than 10% travel expected of the role.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Progressive ability in the use of Finite element analysis (FEA) for predicting how a product reacts to real-world forces, vibration, heat, fluid flow, and other physical effects.
  • Working knowledge of Minitab software to predict better outcomes, design better products, and improve processes to generate higher revenues and reduce costs.
