PMA & DER Engineer
SUMMARY: The PMA & DER Engineer is responsible for leading the design and delivery of new aviation products including, but not limited to the research and development, product design, testing, product quality control, and product support for the company.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Perform all engineering tasks required to bring new products into production including Research, design, development, testing, tooling, manufacturing, ongoing support for new and existing product lines.
- Communicate and work with all departments such as purchasing, sales, operations, quality, and customer service as needed in support of our products.
- Communicate with and provide necessary documentation to FAA personnel for product approval, customers, suppliers, and distributors as needed.
- Follow policies and procedures in the maintenance manuals, VSE Aviation Quality Assurance Manual, Engineering Manual, and Safety Manuals as required.
- Support product teams through the new product development process including, but not limited to, production specifications, design reviews, model development and associated drawings.
- Propose and make ongoing improvements to products, the associated production process and testing equipment as appropriate.
- Develop and propose new testing, design, manufacturing, and aviation product ideas.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 5+ years of relevant/technical work experience OR
- An additional 3 years of specific work experience in lieu of degree.
- Metallurgy and material properties knowledge.
- Ability to work effectively as a team player on projects assigned.
- Ability to manage projects personally and work independently.
- Ability to frame and solve problems, technical and otherwise logically and efficiently.
- CAD knowledge - solid modeling proficiency preferred, FEA experience is a plus.
- Good communication skills are required.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
- Master’s degree
- 8+ years of engineering experience is preferred.
- General aviation experience and an understanding of aircraft systems.
- Hands on machine and manufacturing processes knowledge.
- FAA / PMA product certification experience is a plus.
- Aircraft maintenance experience.
- Tool design experience.
- FAA DER experience.
