Summary

 

The Electrical Technician will support plant operations by maintenance and repair of all electrical systems, instrumentation and controls and equipment.  The Electrical Technician will perform skilled work requiring a high degree of precision and understanding of technical data and systems. This is a full-time, non-exempt, union position located in Philadelphia, PA. The ideal candidate must be willing to become a Bargaining Unit Member of the IBEW Local 614.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Maintain equipment used to control the operation of boilers, chillers, compressors, pumps, and other plant equipment and systems.
  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics and electrical code specifications to determine layout of industrial electrical equipment installations.
  • Perform periodic cleaning, inspection, testing, repairing, and calibration of electrical, electronic, and pneumatic control systems.
  • Perform repairs and modifications to control circuitry.  Install and program electronic instruments.  Install conduit, wiring, tubing and fittings.  Clean and repair electrical power switching equipment. 
  • Test, analyze, and troubleshoot electrical power supply circuits. 
  • Remove, install, clean, and repair, motors, circuit breakers, transformers.  Create, maintain, and update diagrams, drawings, and plans for plant electrical, electronic, and pneumatic controls and instruments.
  • Install, maintain, and calibrate computerized controls and instruments and programmable controllers.
  • Able to workday shift assignment, overtime when situations arise and emergency overtime. On occasion, night shift to support plant operations as assigned.

 

 

Required Qualifications

  • Technical degree in an electrical/electronic discipline or vocational certificate in electrical/electronic discipline preferred.
  • 3 – 5 years’ recent experience as a technician performing maintenance and repair in central plant, power generation or other process plants.
  • Thorough understanding of electrical safety procedures and Lock-Out-Tag-Out procedures.
  • Thorough understanding of 3 phase and 2 phase electrical systems.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge at reading process flow diagrams and control and instrumentation diagrams and interpreting manufacturer's manuals and drawings.
  • Experience with electrical systems up to 13.2 KV.
  • Experience with 125 and 250 volt DC systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot motor control circuits.
  • Knowledge of plant operations in the Energy & Utilities industry with specific experience with utility power infrastructure or related field.
  • Ability to complete routine paperwork and work orders with computer input.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Knowledge on inspections and preventive maintenance of gas combustion and steam. turbines, and auxiliaries is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of industrial centrifugal chillers would be a plus.
  • PLC troubleshooting and programing desirable.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation and controls (installation, commissioning, troubleshooting).

 

Physical Requirements 

 

  • Must submit to company provided pre-employment physical exam and drug screen.
  • Ability to hear and understand audible alarms and detect changes in noise levels of rotating equipment.
  • Valid driver license and insurable by Company’s vehicle insurance carrier.
  • The job can be physically demanding involving movement of heavy equipment and carrying materials up and down stairs.
  • Candidates should be able to lift and maneuver a 70-lb load.
