Medical Supervisor - Psychiatrist

 

POSITION SUMMARY

As a Medical Supervisor, you will lead a team of Physician Assistants and Advance Practice Nurses to deliver compassionate, evidence-based medical care. You will contribute to the development of protocols and practices to ensure alignment with current best practices, as well as legal, ethical, and regulatory standards. You should endorse Medication Assisted Treatment as an important treatment option for appropriate candidates.

 

You and your team will have primary admission privileges and responsibility for medical services across a continuum of care that includes inpatient Medically Monitored Detox (ASAM 3.7) and High Intensity Residential Services (ASAM 3.5), as well as a range of outpatient services (ASAM 2.5 - 1.0).

 

The ideal candidate for this position has experience and expertise in addiction treatment, outstanding leadership skills, and the desire to embrace a team-based approach that models collaborative, solution-based problem solving, and authentic communication.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Legal:

  • Admit all detox and residential patients to the care of your title and license.
  • Ensure facility and prescribers maintain appropriate licensure for the ordering, storing, and administration of OTC, prescription, and Schedule II-V medications.
  • Evaluate potential admissions flagged as needing medical approval.
  • Review and co-sign any documentation requiring oversight.
  • Ensuring the adequacy of individual treatment plans (including medication plans) developed with the participation of professional personnel, including notations of contraindications and precautions.
  • Providing or arranging for daily medical coverage to meet patient needs.
  • Determination of the credentials required of other physicians working under the medical director.
  • Determination of the credentials required of clinicians who may prescribe pharmacotherapies.

 

Develop and supervise a team of PAs and NPs:

  • Work with the People Team to recruit, hire, and train a team of full-time and per diem staff to meet established staffing ratios.
  • Maintain and adjust a staffing schedule, including overnight on-call coverage, that addresses fluctuations in patient census.
  • Ensure History & Physical assessments are completed and signed within 24 hours for all new admissions.
  • Facilitate opportunities for professional growth and development.
  • Provide biweekly supervision for team members.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, communication, positive energy, and compassionate support for patients, peers, and oneself.

 

 

 

 

Review, update, and create medical policies, protocols, and practices to advance:

  • Standards of care & safety.
  • Development of Admission Criteria.
  • Development of treatment protocols.
  • Efficiency and workflow.
  • Patient and staff satisfaction.
  • Compliance with all applicable laws and regulatory standards.

 

Collaborate with other departments, teams and stakeholders, including:

  • Medical Executive Committee and Medical Advisory Committees
  • Psychiatrist and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners
  • Nursing Department
  • Treatment teams
  • Campus- and Senior-Leadership Teams
  • Business development teams
  • Pharmacies
  • Patient families
  • Local hospitals and healthcare providers
  • Utilization review team and insurance companies
  • Professional organizations

Requirements:

  • Graduate from an accredited medical school doctoral program required; completed a residency in psychiatry; board certification preferred. 
  • A license and certification to practice medicine.
  • XDEA license
  • Five or more years of experience in clinical and addiction medicine, preferred.
  • Leadership/administration experience preferred.
  • Understanding of The Joint Commission’s standards and ASAMs levels of care and criteria.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to use hands and fingers, talk or hear.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk and reach continually. Ability to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch frequently.
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Close vision required to see computer monitor, read documents, and operate copy and fax machine.
  • Work environment is indoors and climate controlled. Occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
