As a short-term intern, you will gain professional development, career preparation tools, leadership experience and a vast network with other professionals all while having a lot of fun!
**This is a paid internship; candidates are eligible for overtime pay (time and a half) for any hours over (40) a week. Additionally, this role includes housing during the entirety of the internship.
What you’ll do:
This internship encompasses an umbrella of elements including public safety, as well as parking and transportation. The intern will interact and have working relationships with multiple USGA staff members and community officials. The position will focus on responsibilities listed below.
Public Safety Duties:
- Serve as a key contact with the private security vendor. Assist with developing the private security deployment and ensure that the scheduled deployment is being met through the conclusion of the championship.
- Responsible for coordinating all Public Safety documentation including but not limited to the Public Safety Operational Manual, Transportation Manual, Public Safety handbook, private security handbook and parking services handbook. All publications should be produced in necessary quantities prior to the start of the championship.
- Provide USGA staff with administrative office support for public safety responsibilities (billback projections, budget tracking, creating and managing purchase orders and invoice tracking).
Parking & Transportation:
- Work with USGA vendor to coordinate the production and distribution of championship parking passes beginning with route design, route confirmation and map production.
- Serve as a key contact for the parking services vendor to ensure that scheduled staffing levels are met.
- Work with the parking services company to ensure that it/they have the necessary resources procured and delivered to each parking site and assist in developing parking lot operational maps.
- Following the championship, manage the teardown of parking lots and the return of rented equipment to ensure limited to no attrition charges.
- Provide USGA staff with administrative office support for parking and transportation responsibilities (billback projections, budget tracking, creating and managing purchase orders and invoice tracking).
Special Projects:
Special projects which will arise in the weeks leading up to championship and during the event. These projects could include, but are not limited to:
- Assist with the creation and distribution of community and resident correspondence including letters and emails.
- Organize and prepare for credential distribution of host club, public safety, and local organizations/groups.
- Represent the USGA and U.S. Women’s Open at trophy tour events in the local market.
- Assist USGA staff with the preparation and set-up of on-site facilities (i.e., corporate hospitality, media center, vendor compounds, volunteer village, office trailers, etc.)
- Prepare for staff arrivals by distributing and setting up equipment (chairs, mini-fridges, furniture, office equipment, tables, water coolers, picnic tables, golf carts etc.
- Facilitate vendor/USGA departmental requests in a timely manner.
- Work with the package distribution team to deliver items throughout the property.
- Assist vendors and USGA staff with tear-down and clean-up procedures following the completion of the Championship.
- Work with USGA staff on installation, removal, and storage of Championship equipment

This role will be based out of Erin, WI at Erin Hills Golf Course.

- Effective communication with a wide variety of individuals involved in a national championship
- Resourceful, presentable, courteous, friendly and organized
- Good follow-up skills and ability to handle issues quickly and calmly
- Ability to work independently and support the team
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software – above average knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Publisher
- Ability to prepare presentations to include PowerPoint and printed material
- Demonstrated ability to follow and execute detailed plans – able to anticipate and analyze problems and provide logical solutions
- Ability to work well under pressure
