Pay Range:         $16.25/hour

About this opportunity: The Truck Driver is responsible for driving The Salvation Army truck along scheduled routes to pick up donations. This includes safely operating the truck, following state regulations, and loading and unloading items like furniture, appliances, and clothing. The driver ensures the safety and security of the vehicle and donations and may also assist with tasks in the Thrift Store and warehouse.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Confers regularly with the Dispatcher to maintain awareness of scheduled pick-ups of donations in accordance with the established policy.
  • Reviews scheduled pick-ups to ensure they are scheduled for the correct day of the week and geographical location.
  • Organize scheduled pick-ups by most direct routes to save time and fuel consumption.
  • Assists the Truck Helper in lifting and stacking donations in truck and unloading the truck at the sorting area of the stores.
  • Prepares donation receipt for customers; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.
  • Maintains good relationship with donors to promote a favorable image of The Salvation Army.
  • Drives to the dump and metal recycling center to dispose of non-useable donations.
  • Ensures the truck meets the scheduled maintenance and perform operators’ maintenance in accordance with established standards.
  • Drives carefully and observes/complies with all traffic signs and the road (weather) conditions to ensure the safety of passengers.
  • Parks vehicle in a safe and clearly marked parking space.
  • Locks vehicle doors when the vehicle is not in use.
  • Fuels vehicle in accordance with state gasoline regulations and The Salvation Army standards.
  • Logs all mileage on standard forms and ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.
  • Arrives at destination according to schedules or telephones ahead when severe delays occur.

What we are looking for in you:

  • Age Requirement: Must be 21 years of age or older to drive a Salvation Army vehicle.
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Requires a valid State Driver’s License.

 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: The Truck Driver must have knowledge of the assigned geographical area and be able to organize pick-up routes efficiently to save time and fuel. The role requires driving a heavy-duty truck and working effectively with co-workers. Physical demands include continuous walking, standing, stooping, some climbing, and lifting medium to heavy objects (25-60 lbs.). The position involves exposure to outdoor conditions such as rain, cold, snow, heat, and environmental discomforts like noise, dust, and dirt. Daily driving and physical effort are required, along with the ability to meet attendance requirements and follow written or map directions.
