Senior Substance Abuse Counselor
The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Substance Abuse Counselor for the Dauphin Way Lodge located in Mobile, Alabama.
About this opportunity:
Provides individual, family, and group counseling in relation to the treatment and recovery of substance abuse. Prepares and maintains up-to-date electronic case notes, consumer records and reports. Meets with the Program Coordinator and other staff to coordinate treatment objectives and outcomes. Utilizes evidence-based counseling techniques including but not limited to motivational interviewing, 12 Step counseling, cognitive therapy techniques.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities include:
- Working knowledge of group dynamics, disease concept of addiction, Twelve Step recovery program and relapse prevention.
- Ability to evaluate the client's progress toward program goals.
- Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work in order to accomplish work in compliance with quality standards and deadlines.
What we are looking for in you:
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Psychology, Social Work, Behavioral Science or a related fieldor
- Bachelor’s degree or greater from an accredited college or university in Psychology, Social Work, Behavioral Science, or a related field.
- Successful completion of clinical practicum or participates in clinical supervision until the attainment of the substance abuse certification (up to two years)
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
