Child Care Worker

About this opportunity:
Provides Child Care services for children in the child watch areas including personal care, hygiene, learning and development activities and specialized programs; prepares and maintains record; maintains cleanliness and orderliness of childcare property. Assists with the set-up, oversight, and cleanup of children’s parties as scheduled.
Key responsibilities:
- Provides constant care for the needs of the children in an efficient, clean, loving, safe, secure, and healthy Builds and maintains effective and positive relationships with parents in order to ensure an enriching and nurturing experience for their children.
- Develops and implements hands-on activities which are age appropriate.
- Determines appropriate supplies and materials are available at all times; ensures the children’s safety in utilizing the same.
- Provides opportunities for physical and mental stimulation through both inside and outside activities.
- Prepares and serves children snack; ensures that children receive nutritional and tasteful food.
- Organizes and supervises recreational activities; observes, monitors, and supervises children on the playground.
- Monitors and ensures that children are clean and orderly in appearance. Sees to the personal hygiene of the children, including toilet assistance, diapering, etc.; adheres to sanitary procedures.
- Monitors equipment in the Child Watch area including but not limited to cribs, toys, furniture, etc. and sees that they are in good repair and meet sanitary standards. Notifies supervisor of issues relating to equipment in a timely manner.
- Exhibits control of children and when needed displays discipline techniques
- Decorates rooms with up-to-date themes and seasons; prepares and maintains attractive, entertaining, and educational parent information bulletin board.
- Turns off lights before leaving the Child Watch area and straightens the room before leaving each day.
- Prepares and maintains up-to-date records and required reports (attendance, child activity reports, discipline reports, etc.).
- Reports all accidents to the supervisor in a n accurate and timely manner.
- Informs parents of children’s activities while in the Child Watch area.
- Sets up and oversees parties in the children’s party room as scheduled to include welcoming attendees, answers questions, helps with clean up, monitors departure of group.
- Follows guidelines provided on Standards of Performance.
- Stays current on changes in policies that affect area.
- Interact professionally in all contact with the public and Salvation Army Officers and staff.
- Attends and participates in regularly scheduled in-service training sessions.
- Maintains a professional attitude and approach to problem solving.
What we are looking for in you:
- High School diploma or G.E.D required, And
- Two (2) years’ experience teaching child development programs in a church or pre-school; Or
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to observe children and ensure their safety. Ability to lift, hold, and carry toddlers on a regular basis. Duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis. Work is performed in a normal childcare environment where there are little physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
