The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith based organization, has a job opening for a School Of Performing Arts Teacher at the Arlington Corps, located in Arlington, TX.

Job Summary:

Teaches professional-level group lessons to youth in appropriate performing arts discipline (musical instruments, vocals, etc.); creates lesson plans, monitors student progress, prepares students for performances; interacts with parents and other teachers; follows prescribed curriculum.

 

Shift

6 hours weekly

 

Essential Functions:

Performance Arts Lesson Planning and Teaching Responsibilities (80%)

Teaches professional-level weekly or bi-weekly lessons to groups of students at corps community centers in appropriate performing arts discipline (musical instruments, vocals, etc.).

Develops lesson plans that follow prescribed curricula and curriculum materials.

Evaluates and documents student progress. 

Helps students develop and track performance goals. 

Interface effectively with parents and other teachers to further program goals.

Prepares students for end of semester concert.

 

Child Care Responsibilities (20%)

Ensures the safety of students during lessons.

Manages the class and disciplines children as needed following proper procedures.

 

Other Responsibilities:

Assists with monitoring student behavior between classes and during breaks.

Prepares classroom for instruction; picks up classroom after lesson as needed.

Performs at end of semester concert if needed.

Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Materials and Equipment:

Musical Instrument and/or Basic Subject Matter Related Performance Items

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Extensive knowledge of pedagogy in appropriate performing arts discipline.

Knowledge of teaching techniques and learning theories.

Ability to adapt curriculum materials for various age groups.

Professional level performing arts skills.

Ability to communicate effectively and clearly as an educator.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

 

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or G.E.D. required, with a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Music Arts, Music Education, or related field preferred,

And 

Two years experience teaching private or group lessons in appropriate performing arts discipline, 

Or 

any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

Certifications:

CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification (or ability to obtain within established timeframe)

 

Physical Requirements:

Ability to meet attendance requirements.

Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language effectively.

Ability to demonstrate performing arts techniques.

Ability to establish goals and objectives and monitor their effective implementation.

Ability to form positive relationships with youth.

Ability to conduct all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and its Christian principles; conducts all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism.

Duties are usually performed seated but may require frequent periods of standing and walking. 

Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.

Working Conditions:

Work is usually performed in a normal classroom environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
