Group Fitness Instructor-Part-time, Memphis, Tennessee, Southern Territory
The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for a Group Fitness Instructor, part-time, for the Southern Territory Kroc Center, located in Memphis, Tennessee.
Job Summary
Instruct group fitness classes to all ages and levels. Design instructional programs, and demonstrate proper techniques and styling to all levels of participants. Participate in employee training/meetings and other occasional Kroc Center Fitness Department programs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to teach group fitness classes, beginning through advanced, to a diverse group of individuals.
Ability to create programs geared to individual and group needs.
Ability to speak before large and small groups with poise and enthusiasm.
Good communication skills with individuals from children through adult.
Knowledge of safety precautions needed, and ability to ensure compliance/adherence by all class members.
Ability to relate well to members, nonmembers, youth, adults and staff.
Have the ability to work with children, parents, and staff in a capacity of leadership, counseling and education including but not limited to:
Ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to children of all ages.
Sensitivity to children’s individual needs.
Ability to use appropriate positive discipline consistently.
Dependability.
Ability to handle security and crisis situations, calmly.
Ability to seek supervision and use it consistently.
Ability to maintain a safe working environment; Report all harmful problems with facilities to the proper supervisor.
Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
Recognize the spiritual need of individuals, which may require referral to the officer/pastor who is an ordained minister of religion.
Perform other assignments/duties as directed
Education and Experience
Two years of experience in instruction of group fitness classes.
Must successfully complete the Safe from Harm Child Abuse training as established by The Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center.
Must be able to read, write and communicate in English.
Have a Philosophy of education and child development, which is consistent with that of the Center and The Salvation Army.
Maintain a professional attitude and approach to problem solving.
Certifications
Must have or be able to obtain CPR/First Aide certification within first 30 days of employment.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
Must be able to lift and carry 40lbs.
Meet all health and safety regulations as defined by the Health Department as well as The Salvation Army.
Must be in good physical and mental health, capable of meeting the demands of the gymnasium and athletic field programs.
