Building Maintenance Worker
The Salvation Army, an international recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for a full time Building Maintenance Worker.
JOB SUMMARY:
Performs emergency, preventative and routine repairs of buildings and equipment. Performs emergency, preventative routine ground keeping work to ensure the beautification of the landscape. Performs minor emergency, preventative and routine plumbing and carpentry repair work. Competently and confidently performs mechanical skills in all phases of construction and maintenance.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of general building and grounds maintenance practices and procedures to ensure successful completion for all job tasks. Ability to learn by method of on-the-job training including ability to follow instructions. Ability to perform routine and minor repair and maintenance activities of buildings and grounds. Ability to use and maintain maintenance equipment and tools effectively and in a safe manner. Ability to maintain driving ability according to Salvation Army policies, procedures, and certifications. Ability to learn successfully and efficiently utilize a work order and tracking system in cooperation with administration. Ability to read, write and communicate the English language as well as work with limited English proficient applicants and tenants. Ability to perform heavy lifting of supplies, materials, etc, weighing up to 50 lbs. Performs routine building maintenance activities; performs minor pluming repairs required by leaking faucets and clogged toilets; performs carpentry work required to repair dents and/or holes in walls and paints walls. Sweeps, vacuums, strips, mops, and waxes floors; sweeps sidewalks. Cleans surroundings after each repair job; ensures that all tools are collected, and surroundings are left neat and clean. Monitor’s lighting and changes light bulbs when needed. Maintains all tools, supplies, parts, and equipment belonging to the Maintenance Department. Performs other related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or G.E.D. and two years’ experience performing maintenance work in a general maintenance environment any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Valid state driver's license.
Universal EPA refrigerant license preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to perform heavy lifting of supplies, materials, etc. weighing up to 50 lbs. Must be able to safely climb and work from ladders and/or high places. Must be able to safely use proper hand or power equipment to perform all responsibilities. Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects. Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping standing, and some climbing. Work requires working in unoccupied non-heated or non-cooled apartments or working outdoors daily with exposure to physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain cold, heat or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
