Position: Store Clerk
Employer: Salvation Army Thrift Store
Minimum Qualifications:
Must have a GED or high school diploma
And three months prior customer service or retail experience,
Or
Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Valid Texas state driver’s license.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively.
Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.
Duties are usually performed standing.
Moderate physical effort required associated with sitting, walking, standing, lifting, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, and carrying light to moderately heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.) frequently.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a Store where there are some physical discomforts associated with changes in weather, or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
Duties:
Directly responsible to operate & maintain the cash register & credit card machines; assists in maintaining the orderliness, cleanliness & security of the Customer Service Area, assists Store customers in donating and selecting Store items; responds to customer questions; answers telephone; maintains Store displays as directed.
Inputs & maintains daily Store sales using the cash register and credit card machines; collects all monies, counts change and gives customer sales receipt; prepares & packages final sales for customer upon exit; runs routine cash register print outs; closes out register at end of shift; prepares and balances the cash register drawer; ensures the Daily Sales Report is completed and signed.
Assures supplies in the Customer Service Area are adequately stocked for daily usage.
Maintains neatness & security of the Customer Service Area.
Assists customers by explaining store policy and responding to questions regarding the pricing and/or purchasing of items; ensures that all customers visiting the Store have a pleasant experience.
Assists customers who are donating items to The Salvation Army; directs customers to the proper loading/unloading area; prepares and provides tax receipts as needed.
Answers the Store telephone in a tactful and courteous manner; assists customers by responding to questions and providing directions and/or general information.
Maintains the neatness and security of the Customer Service Area; ensures forms, bags, etc. are adequately stocked; cleans floors, counter and work areas; maintains cleanliness of Store entrance / exit area. Ensures that all customers visiting the store have a pleasant experience.
Places and arranges items in the Store as directed; checks all Store displays to ensure that items are maintained and displayed in a neat and orderly manner; rotates and/or rearranges stock as directed; returns items to the proper location after customers have handled.
Cleans all display racks and shelves; sweeps and vacuums floors; cleans all glass areas; ensures that the Store is maintained in a clean and inviting manner; maintains customer fitting room area.
Inspects items for display / sale to ensure they can be used according to established policies and procedures.
Works assigned shifts as directed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of effective customer service techniques.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of basic mathematics.
Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with co-workers.
Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.
Ability to prepare and maintain reports in an accurate, complete, and timely manner.
Ability to work independently and with limited supervision.
