Job Summary:
Participates in the repairing of donated appliances, electronics, minor center repairs, and repair of other products; train and instructs beneficiaries in the proper procedures; prioritizes and evaluates work; ensures shops operate within established policies and procedures and local state and federal regulations.
Maintains building and equipment including, but not limited to, heat/air conditioning, plumbing, electrical equipment, painting, etc. Maintains and repair of motorized items including, but not limited to, trucks, trailers, machines, lawn mowers, etc. Monitors work in progress and ensure repairs are complete and accurate within established policies and procedures.
Participates in the operating of all equipment in accordance with established Salvation Army policies and procedures and local, state, federal and OSHA regulations. Participates in the maintenance of tools and equipment; maintains an adequate number and variety of tools and parts to enable the shop to repair products on a timely basis; recommends purchase of such items to General Supervisor.
Ensures that the overall operations of the shops are performed to provide maximum efficiency, productivity, and meeting or exceeding quality control and production quotas. Examines various products brought to the department to determine whether or not the product is economically worth repairing after analyzing the cost to repair versus the potential selling price.
Paints, repairs, clean and polish various products to increase attractiveness and sales in stores. Prepares and maintains production reports in a timely and accurate manner. Participates in the sweeping, emptying of trash, and other cleaning activities ensuring that the shop area is maintained in a clean and orderly manner. Drives to various Center locations or other locations to perform maintenance assigned job responsibilities; provides maintenance records as required by Administrator.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Broad knowledge of the procedures and methods of repairing various appliances, electronics, furniture and other products. Ability to successfully participate in the work of repairing appliances, electronics, furniture and other products. Ability to read and comprehend manuals and written instructions. Knowledge, skills and ability to successfully communicate, both verbally and in writing, in the English language.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred, and two years of experience repairing various appliances, electronics, furniture and other similar products and some experience supervising other employees performing the same or similar work or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Certifications:
Valid State Driver’s License.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Ability to meet attendance requirements. Moderate physical effort required associated with lifting and carrying heavy weights of appliances, electronics, furniture and other products on a frequent basis. Must be able to push or pull heavy loads, over 100 pounds, of various appliances, electronics, furniture and other products on an occasional basis. Work requires walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, and some climbing 75% to 100% of the work time. Work is usually performed in a warehouse environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in the weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
