Assistant Manager

The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith based
organization, has a job opening for a Assistant Manager for the Family Store, located inAsheville, NC.

Job Summary

Supervises and participates in the day-to-day operations of the Family Store warehouse
ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures; ensures the
accountability and security of cashier funds; maintains the neatness and
attractiveness of store merchandise ensuring that the displays remain
well-stocked; assists customers in locating items and prices and explains store
policy; assists employees in resolving routine problems and performing special
assignments; assumes the responsibilities of the Family Store Manager as
needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of effective and efficient techniques for merchandising retail store items.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of basic mathematics.

Knowledge of effective customer service techniques.

Ability to prepare and maintain attractive merchandise displays.

Ability to supervise, lead, and motivate the work of subordinate employees.

Ability to assume additional supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the Family
Store Manager.

Mental and Physical Abilities

Ability to meet attendance requirements.

Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.

Ability to operate a cash register.

Ability to perform routine mathematical computations and count change.

Ability to stand for extended periods of time.

Ability to perform frequent walking and/or standing, kneeling, or squatting relieved by
lesser periods of sitting operating a vehicle.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or G.E.D. and One year experience working in a retail store, preferably a Salvation Army
Family Store with some experience supervising the work of co-workers,

Or 
Any equivalent combination of
training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and
abilities.

Licenses and Certifications

None.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Work is performed in a normal store environment where there are little or no
physical discomforts associated with changes in weather. Work is performed in a
warehouse environment where there are physical discomforts associated with
changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the
like.
