Divisional Accounting Manager
Location: The Salvation Army Georgia Divisional Headquarters
About this opportunity:
Supervises the Divisional Accountant and Divisional Accounting Specialists for AR & AP ensuring compliance with accounting standards. Assists the Divisional Finance Director in planning, organizing, controlling, and supervising accounting functions while providing oversight for DHQ and Service Units in generating, posting, maintaining, and balancing journal entries as well as reconciling accounts and tracks activity of the same. Facilitates and monitors deposits/payments to Territorial Headquarters. Prepares routine financial statements and reports; assists in preparing reports for internal and external audits of DHQ. Maintains efficient filing system for assigned accounts. Ensures DHQ accounting functions are performed in compliance with established Salvation Army policies and procedures, as well as local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
Key responsibilities:
- Manages and supervises Divisional Accountant and Divisional Accounting Specialists for AR & AP
- Reviews and approves accounting records, ledgers, and statements for accuracy and compliance.
- Oversees accounting records, databases, and reconciliation processes.
- Provides information for the Divisional Consolidation process.
- Coordinates with DHQ HR to review and update job descriptions, conduct interviews, and manages hiring and performance evaluations.
- Oversees Capital Campaign Accounting, Red Kettle Worker (RKW) activities, and online banking assignments.
- Reviews and approves daily accounting transactions, including payables, receivables, and journal entries.
- Oversees account reconciliations and the general ledger review process.
- Coordinates monthly and fiscal year-end closing and ensures financial integrity.
- Assists in preparing the Divisional Budget, including variance analysis and financial reporting.
- Provides support and training to field personnel.
- Ensures proper monitoring of checking accounts, deposits, and cash flow.
- Manages TSAMM and the Divisional Headquarters Banking maintenance activities and Wells Fargo corporate credit card coding.
- Monitors accounts receivables and payables to ensure timely transactions.
- Coordinates and supports routine audits, prepares work papers, and assists auditors.
- Manages disaster-related expenses and reporting.
- Ensures accurate and timely preparation of financial statements and reports.
- Reviews government grant contracts to ensure compliance with accounting and reporting standards.
- Organizes and conducts training sessions for DHQ Finance personnel.
- Maintains financial records on the Divisional Portal.
- Implements and refines accounting procedures.
- Assists with contract reviews and social service agreements.
- Provides cross-training support and supervises during times of disaster.
- Offers recommendations for process improvements.
- Travels as needed for organizational representation.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
What we are looking for in you:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, or related field; and
- Four years of progressively responsible experience with two years’ experience in a supervisory role, or
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Valid State Driver’s License
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to travel as needed. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language effectively. Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting ad carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time. Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like. Work involves traveling to various locations in assigned region where there may be physical discomforts associated with travel.
