Location: The Salvation Army Georgia Divisional Headquarters 

About this opportunity:

Completes divisional accounting functions, by performing computerized, double-entry tasks to support Divisional Headquarters accounting processes, such as posting, reviewing, balancing accounts, and preparing reports for assigned accounts; prepares and maintains financial records in an accurate, complete, and timely manner while ensuring the integrity, security and accountability of Salvation Army financial accounts ensuring transactions are processed accurately and timely in accordance with Salvation Army policies, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and FASB standards. Maintains financial records, prepares reports, and supports budgeting, banking, and reconciliation activities. Provides backup support for accounts receivable/payable and regional accounting functions.   

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Administers divisional accounting functions, ensuring compliance with Salvation Army policies and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, GAAP.
  • Manages full cycle accounting processes, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries, and reconciliations.
  • Prepares and posts journal entries, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Analyzes trial balances and ledger accounts, correcting discrepancies as needed.
  • Prepares financial reports and statements for review by senior leadership.
  • Assists in monthly and fiscal closing, ensuring all entries are accurate and reconciled.
  • Manages fixed assets, vehicle depreciation, and property insurance accounts and processes.
  • Supports budget preparation and ensures proper classification of financial data.
  • Manages DHQ corporate card payments, reviews transactions, and reconciles statements.
  • Oversees Positive Pay account, verifying check issuance and resolving discrepancies.
  • Performs bank reconciliations for operating and subsidiary accounts.
  • Ensures daily processing of income items, deposits, and cash balance monitoring.
  • Reviews general ledger postings and enters journal adjustments as necessary.
  • Supports financial reporting, including budget summaries, financial returns, and variance analyses.
  • Assists with quarterly and annual financial assessments and audit preparations.
  • Prepares reports for senior management decision-making.
  • Ensures financial data integrity and compliance with reporting standards.
  • Assists with 1099 processing and tax grant preparation.
  • Participates in cross-training within finance functions.
  • Supports audits, providing documentation and work papers.
  • Provides accounting support during disaster response as needed.
  • Maintains records on the Divisional Portal.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

What we are looking for in you:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, Business or related; and
  • Two years of progressively responsible experience in computerized accounting, with exposure to double-entry fund accounting, or
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Valid State Driver’s License

 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language effectively. Ability to keypunch information into a computer. Ability to operate office equipment and perform routine calculations. Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting ad carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time. Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
