Children & Youth Manager
Location: The Salvation Army Augusta Kroc Center
About this opportunity:
Plan, develop, implement and oversee the activities of creative arts programs and staff training strategies to grow creative arts programming and fee-based classes for the Kroc Center in four priority areas, music, arts, education, and recreation. Researches, leads, and develops the curriculums and activities for all Kroc Center Camps, Child Watch, After School Services (Kroc Reach, home school program and youth centered events, while modeling behaviors consistent with Salvation Army values and National Kroc Standards. Prepares, documents, and monitors corresponding budgets and forecasting. Interfaces and utilizes services of Congregational Life staff to develop and implement wholistic family programs aligned with The Salvation Army and Kroc Center mission. Collaborates with all departments across the Kroc Center to fulfill the goals and initiatives of the departments for which they are responsible, as well as the Kroc Center and Area Command.
Key responsibilities:
- Plan, develop, and oversee the activities of creative arts programs keeping the four priorities- art, education, recreation and music central to the whole of the programming and strategic vision.
- Develop, implement and manage all curriculum and activities for Child Watch, Kroc Camps, and After School programming.
- Develop and implement lesson plans which are age-group program specific; utilizes age-group appropriate discovery areas, including Bible Study, enriched with program-specific activities, teacher-made materials and hands-on activities.
- Provide training to staff enabling them to carry out the curriculum and activities for their designated job assignments, including prioritizing positive customer service experiences for members, participants and guests.
- Ensure the safety and protection of members and participants through training of staff, and enforcement of policy, National Kroc Standards, and protocols.
- Assist in member retention through high quality and safe youth services.
- Collaborate with Human Resources for recruitment, training, performance appraisal of all staff and volunteers in assigned areas, within Salvation Army policies and guidelines.
- Provide Worship, healthy living, arts, and educational options for youth members by collaborating internally and with local agencies as appropriate.
- Collaborate with Marketing department to ensure that all programs are promoted internally and externally with accurate information, and on an appropriate schedule.
- Collaborate with Business Operations to ensure that all programs are accurately recognized in our membership software, and that submissions are on a timely schedule.
- Maintains adequate levels of programs supplies (for all programs) while keeping them organized and clean.
- Assists in maintaining cleanliness and orderliness of the facility.
- Process and report all incident reports accurately and in a timely manner.
- Facilitates program check-in and check-out procedures according to protocol.
- Develop and manage budgets and forecasts for all applicable departments.
- Collaborate with Business Operations to ensure collection of unsatisfied program payments.
- Counsels and praises staff as appropriate and as consistent with policy.
- Meet or exceeds enrollment and budget goals.
- Survey members and program participants, using feedback to improve and enhance offerings.
- Serves as Manager on Duty.
- Set goals for staff and administers performance reviews.
- Collect accurate statistics and report them monthly.
- Creates employee schedules, payroll and maintains all records of employee time in a timely manner.
- Resolves disputes with participants, parents, staff and volunteers in a professional manner.
- Keeps participants and staff issues confidential.
- Reports concerns and/or allegations to appropriate agencies.
- Establishes timelines and evaluation periods for department performance goals.
- Remain current on applicable certifications and experience continuing education through trainings, conferences, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
What we are looking for in you:
- Four-year degree in related field and three years of experience supervising youth, home school, camp and afterschool programs OR
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- C.P.R. and First Aid Certification
- Safe from Harm Certification, as directed by supervisor.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to observe children and ensure their safety. Ability to lift, hold, and carry toddlers on a regular basis. Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work in order to accomplish work in compliance with quality standards and deadlines. Duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis. Work is performed in a normal childcare environment where there is little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
