About this opportunity:

Assist Knoxville Area Command Director of Development with planning, coordinating, implementing, administering, evaluating and monitoring an aggressive Community Relations and Development Program, targeting the designated geographical area of the Knoxville Area Command; raises visibility, volunteers and monies to enable the ministry of The Salvation Army; coordinates and secures gifts to reach/surpass fund-raising goals established annually through the gifts generated from individuals, corporations and foundations. There is special emphasis on volunteers, data entry and coordination, cause marketing, sponsorship, and mid-level donor engagement for Knoxville Area Command.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist Director of Development with strengthening communication with donors, prospective donors, volunteers, media personnel, civic club leadership and corporations, maintains open and direct channels of communication including written documentation showing a personalized plan for each donor.

 

  • Organizes media coverage and social media information for special events such as luncheons, banquets, and the Red Kettle program. Liaison with website and social media vendor.

 

  • Designs, develops, and prepares brochures, annual reports and a quarterly newsletter designed to keep donors, clients, media, and those requesting information of The Salvation Army up to date on the activities of The Salvation Army in the local area.

 

  • Prepares and maintains records of all phone calls, correspondence, visitation, and a calendar of all contacts; receives and responds to donors and prospects mail.

 

  • Raises visibility through coordinating with local and regional print and broadcast media; Civic Clubs; Churches; Educational Institutions; Businesses and Corporations, TSA Advisory Board and Advisory Organizations, Social Media sites.

 

  • Assisting the Director of Development through working with current and prospective donors; community groups; foundations; Corporations and businesses; Civic Clubs; United Way; Grant Writing; and Special Events.
  • Working with the Director of Development to plan, coordinate, and initiate a strategy to generate gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations for support of the programs and services.

 

  • Maintains ongoing development and promotion of a range of volunteer opportunities with The Salvation Army and programs; recruits, trains, interviews and screens all volunteers needed to support all programs for Knoxville Area Command projects specific to development.  This includes special event planning committees and board related subcommittees.

 

  • Coordinates volunteer recruitment for Christmas campaigns; contacts participating mall offices; acknowledges on-site Angel Tree sponsors and Kettle Volunteers to ensure they are properly recognized and thanked for their service.

 

  • Utilizes the territorially mandated constituent relationship management system; inputs, updates, and tracks pertinent donor information; records changes, maintains donor information and records with confidentiality.  Consistently manages assigned projects year-round in CRM tool including pulling and providing reports from the system requiring higher levels of computer database systems.

 

 What we are looking for in you:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, from an accredited college or university in Community Relations, Non-Profit Administration/Management, Marketing, or a related field,
  • 2 years of progressively responsible experience in media relations or development functions.
  • Or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Three years of fund-raising experience or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Manual dexterity. Ability to sit, walk and stand on a frequent change basis to perform the duties of this position.  Ability to lift objects weighing between 25-50 lbs.  Ability to travel throughout the assigned counties for the Knoxville Area Command on a regular basis to work with donors/prospects, and professionals of their communities.
