About this Opportunity:
The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, is seeking a Camp Music Conservatory Male Counselor for the Arkansas and Oklahoma Conservatory of Music and Arts, located in Welling, OK.

 

This is a summer position based at Camp Heart O’ Hills. This summary outlines the essential functions and requirements but is not all-inclusive. Additional job-related responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

 

Counselors are assigned a cabin of students to supervise and care for. The primary responsibility of the role is to create a safe, engaging, and supportive environment that fosters personal, artistic, and spiritual growth for each camper. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise students in the cabin during mornings, evenings, and nap times, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Monitor student tables in the dining hall and oversee an assigned camp area during free time.
  • Participate in all required staff activities, including staff meetings, night programs, worship services, Bible studies, and Evensong.
  • Assist in planning at least one night program.
  • Support students in maintaining clean and orderly cabins by:
    • Ensuring daily hygiene practices, such as bathing.
    • Overseeing daily cabin cleaning and proper laundry routines.
    • Hanging wet clothing to dry and keeping cleaning supplies available for supervised use.
    • Monitoring and replenishing essential supplies such as hand soap, paper towels, toilet paper, and laundry detergent.
  • Help maintain discipline and positive behavior in students by:
    • Following appropriate disciplinary guidelines when needed.
    • Encouraging participation and ensuring safety at all times.
    • Providing guidance and role modeling for personal and spiritual growth.
    • Ensuring compliance with camp rules and punctuality.
  • Assist with program activities as assigned by the Conservatory Director.
  • Maintain an incident report log and report any concerns or issues to the Conservatory Director.
  • Ensure proper coverage and supervision of students at all times.
  • All staff perform as necessary ministry functions such as presenting approved devotional material, praying with campers, leading in Christian songs, etc.

 

What We Are Looking for in You:

  • At least six months of experience teaching child development or youth programs in a church setting is preferred, OR an equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Knowledge of child and youth behavior and development principles.
  • Ability to ensure the safety of students and staff.
  • Strong skills in planning, developing, and supervising youth programs.
  • Effective communication skills for engaging with campers and staff.
  • Ability to mentor and build positive relationships with children and youth.

 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Strong ability to communicate and work effectively with students and staff.
  • Visual and auditory abilities to identify safety risks and respond to emergencies.
  • Physical stamina to supervise students and respond to emergency situations.
  • Capability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical activities such as climbing, bending, stooping, and stretching.
  • Comfortable working irregular hours in a camp setting with daily exposure to sun, heat, and varying environmental conditions.
  • Willingness to live on-site and commit to a 7-day-a-week schedule unless otherwise noted by the Conservatory Director.

Additional Information

Camp Staff Orientation will be held 06/11/2025 – 06/15/2025 and participation is required.

 

The 2025 summer camp program will be held 6/16/2025 – 07/20/2025. If you are unable to work the entire session, please let us know on your application.
