About this opportunity:
The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for a Camp Music Conservatory Dance Studio Coordinator for the Arkansas and Oklahoma Conservatory of Music and Arts, located in Welling, OK.

 

This is a summer position based at Camp Heart O’ Hills. This summary outlines essential functions and requirements but is not all-inclusive. Additional job-related responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

 

The Dance Studio Coordinator is responsible for managing the dance studio and implementing a well-rounded curriculum emphasizing dance fundamentals. This role fosters a safe, creative, and engaging learning environment that promotes personal, artistic, and spiritual growth for students.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop a curriculum focusing on dance fundamentals and techniques in both traditional and modern dance styles.
  • Teach students how to select appropriate music, design costumes, and choreograph their own pieces.
  • Prepare students to create dances for worship services.
  • Equip students to pursue further education at dance studios, school programs, or collegiate-level programs, if desired.
  • Ensure all dancers participate in at least one recital night, either as a soloist or part of an ensemble.
  • Lead the dance class in presenting a group piece during graduation.
  • Conduct private lessons to refine technique and prepare students for performances.

 

Additional responsibilities may include:

  • Teaching music theory classes.
  • Creating lesson plans and schedules for private lessons.
  • Grading assignments and monitoring student progress.
  • Preparing students for recitals and performances.
  • Informing the Conservatory Director of supply or equipment needs.
  • Maintaining and caring for Conservatory equipment and instruments.
  • Assisting with setting up and moving equipment for rehearsals and performances.
  • Participating in staff ensembles.
  • Planning and implementing at least one night program.
  • All staff, including the Dance Studio Coordinator, must participate in staff meetings, Bible studies, worship services, night programs, and Evensong.
  • Promote positive behavior among students and apply appropriate disciplinary measures as needed.
  • Ensure students’ participation and safety during all activities.
  • Serve as a role model for personal, artistic, and spiritual growth.
  • Maintain punctuality and compliance with camp rules.
  • Assist with other program activities as assigned by the Conservatory Director.
  • Keep personal living quarters clean and ready for inspection.
  • Report issues, concerns, or incidents to the Conservatory Director.

 

What We Are Looking for in You:

  • At least one year of teaching experience, preferably in a group classroom setting, OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Knowledge of child and youth behavior and development.
  • Strong ability to plan, facilitate, and supervise programs for children and youth.
  • Advanced skills in teaching dance techniques.
  • Strong communication and mentorship abilities.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with students and staff.
  • Visual and auditory abilities to assess safety and respond to emergencies.
  • Physical stamina to supervise students and assist in emergencies.
  • Capability to lift up to 50 lbs and engage in physical activities such as climbing, bending, stooping, and stretching.
  • Comfortable working irregular hours in a camp environment with daily exposure to sun, heat, and varying weather conditions.
  • Willingness to live in a camp setting and commit to a 7-day-a-week schedule, unless otherwise noted by the Conservatory Director.

Additional Information

Camp Staff Orientation will be held 06/11/2025 – 06/15/2025 and participation is required.

 

The 2025 summer camp program will be held 6/16/2025 – 07/20/2025. If you are unable to work the entire session, please let us know on your application.
