About this opportunity:
The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Camp Music Conservatory Theater Studio Coordinator for the Arkansas and Oklahoma Conservatory of Music and Arts, located in Welling, OK.

 

This is a summer position at Camp Heart O’ Hills. This position summary is not all-inclusive but is intended to identify the essential functions and requirements of the role. Incumbents may be asked to perform additional job-related responsibilities beyond those listed.

 

The Theater Studio Coordinator oversees the theater studio by developing a well-rounded curriculum, organizing performances, and training students to use theater as a tool for worship.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Foster a space that encourages personal, artistic, and spiritual growth for students.
  • Focus the theater studio on performance arts such as acting, stage design, audio/visual techniques, costuming, and resource management.
  • Develop a curriculum that balances technical theater skills with spiritual and worship-based applications.
  • Ensure all theater students perform on recital nights, either as part of a class performance or a solo act.
  • Organize and present an ensemble piece during graduation weekend.
  • Equip students with the skills to use their theater abilities to enhance worship services.
  • Provide students with the necessary tools and skills to pursue further education and potentially enter collegiate theater programs.
  • In addition to theater-focused teaching, responsibilities may include teaching a music theory class.
  • Create lesson plans, schedule private lessons, and monitor student progress.
  • Prepare students for recitals and performances, ensuring they are fully ready.
  • Communicate with the Conservatory Director regarding needed supplies, music, or other resources.
  • Ensure that Conservatory equipment and instruments are well maintained.
  • Coordinate setup and breakdown of equipment for rehearsals and performances.
  • Participate in staff ensembles. 
  • Plan at least one night program during the summer.
  • Maintain student discipline, promoting safety and positive behavior at all times.
  • Provide guidance, role-modeling, and mentorship to students both artistically and personally.
  • Monitor student punctuality and ensure they follow camp rules and regulations.
  • Assist with program activities as directed by the Conservatory Director.
  • Participate in staff meetings, Bible studies, worship services, night programs, and Evensong.
  • Ensure your personal living quarters are kept neat and ready for inspection.
  • Be available to assist with any other camp programs or activities as directed by the Conservatory Director.

 

What we are looking for in you:

  • Strong background in theater arts, including acting, stage design, and performance.
  • Ability to teach students and create a comprehensive curriculum that integrates theater into worship.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills for managing performances and rehearsals.
  • Ability to mentor students, guide their artistic development, and prepare them for future opportunities.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with students while ensuring their safety and adherence to camp rules.
  • Experience with or a strong desire to integrate faith-based learning into artistic education.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Physical stamina to supervise students during rehearsals and performances.
  • Comfortable working with children in a camp setting, often with exposure to the sun, heat, and varying environmental conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and participate in physical activities such as stage setup and breakdown.

 

 

What we are looking for in you:

  • Knowledge of child and youth behavior and development principles.
  • Ability to ensure the safety of students and staff.
  • Strong planning, development, and facilitation skills for youth programs.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to mentor students.
  • Knowledge of theater education principles and the ability to teach in group or private settings.
  • Six months of experience teaching in your artistic discipline preferred, or an equivalent combination of training and experience providing the required skills and abilities.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with groups, providing necessary instruction to students and staff.
  • Visual and auditory ability to assess camper and staff behavior, identify hazards, and respond appropriately to emergencies.
  • Physical ability to supervise students, respond to emergencies, and apply first aid.
  • Must possess strength and endurance to maintain constant supervision of students.
  • Physical tasks may include climbing, standing, bending, stooping, and stretching.
  • Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to perform activities are required.
  • Requires a normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate activities.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours in a seven-day-a-week schedule.
  • Exposure to sun, heat, and varying environmental conditions daily.

Additional Information

Camp Staff Orientation will be held 06/11/2025 – 06/15/2025 and participation is required.

 

The 2025 summer camp program will be held 6/16/2025 – 07/20/2025. If you are unable to work the entire session, please let us know on your application.
