As the Camp Nurse, you’ll lead a dedicated clinic team during our 8-week summer program, cultivating a culture of care and safety for campers, staff, and visitors across our campus. 

In this pivotal role, you will oversee health care facilities, ensure medical readiness, and enforce safety protocols to support the well-being of everyone on-site. Central to this position is fostering the growth of college-aged nurse assistants, offering mentorship, guidance, and leadership that inspires excellence in healthcare.

Key responsibilities:   
  

1. Supervision and Guidance:   

  • Provides guidance and positive role modeling to staff and campers, ensuring their safety and well-being.   
  • Plans, implements, and coordinates the daily schedule for Health Team to ensure appropriate coverage at all times according to daily schedule; including on-call Healthcare Center shifts overnight as needed. 
  • Demonstrates Christian values and principles in all interactions, serving as a positive example for campers.   
  • Demonstrates effective camper behavior management and utilizes appropriate communication and discipline techniques as trained, when required.   
  • Actively promotes and embodies the values of Camp Hoblitzelle's summer camp program, fostering an environment that aligns with the camp's mission and principles.   • Integrates faith into daily activities, contributing to the spiritual growth and development of campers within the Christian camp community.    

   

2. Health Care Responsibilities:   

  • Prepare the Healthcare Center for camp, including reviewing medical forms, preparing first aid kits, and setting up key nursing systems for the summer 
  • Participate in the training of staff on all medical services at camp, including but not limited to standing orders, clinic hours, specific camper health or social needs, health care or emergency procedures, and protocols for contacting parents 
  • Provide daily screening, medication distribution, injury support, trip health kits, and recordkeeping to support the ongoing running of the Healthcare Center 
  • Provide guidance to camp staff as they navigate any personal health or medical needs 
  • Communicate professionally and empathetically across a variety of camp stakeholders, including daily communications with Directors and frequent interactions with counselor staff, camp administration, and parents 
  • Coordinate Health Team to monitor and promote health and safety practices throughout the camp, prepare recreational areas, counselors and waterfront with essential supplies, and work with fellow staff to minimize risks. 
  • Coordinate with Camp Directors transportation and health team support to accompany campers off-site for clinic visits. 
  • Maintains a positive, relaxed throughout the day, encouraging conversation and camaraderie among campers.    
  • Enthusiastically enforces compliance with camp rules, safety, and health and licensing regulations promoting quality of programs and safety of campers in cooperation with camp rules and regulations. 

   

3. Program & Activities Assistance:   

  • Contribute actively and enthusiastically to our larger camp community, attending community meals, meetings, and gatherings and spending time with campers and staff outside of the health care center as able, contributing to the maintenance of a lively learning environment and fostering engagement.  
  • Engages in essential ministry duties, including sharing approved devotional content, participating in prayer sessions with campers, and participating in camp worship times.   

 

  4. Safety and Security:   

  • Ensures accountability, security, and provision of quality healthcare of campers during all camp activities.   
  • Reports all accidents to supervisors promptly and accurately, following camp procedures.   

 

What we are looking for in you:   

  • Current licensure in nursing and ability to obtain license to practice in Texas 
  • Experience working in a health care setting, providing care directly to individuals (experience with children preferred) and an understanding of the administrative aspects of a healthcare facility 
  • First Aid/CPR certification and a valid Driver’s License (with a clean driving record) 
  • A heart for others and a mind towards Christ.   
  • A willingness to abide by Camp Hoblitzelle’s doctrinal statement and policies.   

 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:   

Some physical requirements of the Camp Nurse position could be endurance including climbing, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate Nurse equipment and activities are required. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Have a willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering a program in the facility available. Operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat and varying environmental conditions.
