Key responsibilities:
1. Supervision and Guidance:
- Provides guidance and positive role modeling to staff and campers, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Plans, implements, and coordinates the daily schedule for Lifeguards to ensure appropriate coverage of campers and aquatic activities at all times; confirms Lifeguards receive adequate break times according to daily schedule.
- Demonstrates Christian values and principles in all interactions, serving as a positive example for campers.
- Demonstrates effective camper behavior management and utilizes appropriate communication and discipline techniques as trained, when required.
- Promotes and stimulates camper participation to enhance their overall camp experience.
- Actively promotes and embodies the values of Camp Hoblitzelle's summer camp program, fostering an environment that aligns with the camp's mission and principles. - Integrates faith into daily activities, contributing to the spiritual growth and development of campers within the Christian camp community.
2. Aquatic Management:
- Enforces compliance with camp rules, safety, and health regulations at both the camp pool and waterfront.
- Demonstrates effective pool management and utilizes appropriate surveillance, guarding and training techniques in accordance with certified practices and procedures.
- Provides first aid and emergency lifesaving assistance to troubled or drowning swimmers when needed.
- Maintain optimal pool and deck conditions through scheduled cleaning and vacuuming. Additionally, manage chemical balance by performing routine checks on filter systems, testing, and adjusting Ph and chlorine levels, and dispensing chemicals as needed for a balanced pool environment.
3. Program & Activities Assistance:
- Participates enthusiastically as a team member in all-camp activities, evening programs, and special events. When not in a leadership role, contributing to the maintenance of a lively learning environment and fostering engagement.
- Always promotes quality of programs and safety of campers in cooperation with camp rules and regulations.
- Engages in essential ministry duties, including sharing approved devotional content, participating in prayer sessions with campers, and participating in camp worship times.
4. Safety and Security:
- Ensures the accountability, security, and safety of campers during all camp activities.
- Reports all accidents to supervisors promptly and accurately, following camp procedures.
What we are looking for in you:
- Must be at least 18 years old and a high school graduate or GED preferred.
- A heart for others and a mind towards Christ.
- Should be self-motivated and teachable.
- Prior knowledge and skills training in pool management and skill in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
- LGI Certification (or ability to obtain within established timeframe) C.P.R., First Aid, and A.E.D. Certification (or ability to obtain within established timeframe); WSI Certification (preferred)
- A willingness to abide by Camp Hoblitzelle’s doctrinal statement and policies.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Some physical requirements of the Head Lifeguard position could be Ability to swim and perform life-saving activities, endurance including climbing, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate activities are required. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Have a willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering a program in the facility available. Operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat and varying environmental conditions.

- Camp Staff Leadership Training and Orientation will be held 05/28/2025 – 06/08/2025 and participation is required. The 2025 summer Camp program session will be held 06/09/2025 – 07/20/2025. If you are unable to work the entire season, please let us know on your application.
