Summer Camp Challenge Course Assistant

Key responsibilities:
1. Supervision and Guidance:
- Provides guidance and positive role modeling to campers, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Designs, executes, and organizes activities for the assigned group of campers in alignment with the class schedule.
- Demonstrates Christian values and principles in all interactions, serving as a positive example for campers.
- Demonstrates effective camper behavior management and utilizes appropriate communication and discipline techniques as trained, when required.
- Promotes and stimulates camper participation to enhance their overall camp experience.
2. Challenge Course Facilitation:
- Assist in the operation of a diverse Challenge Course, under the direction of the Challenge Course Specialist, ensuring that the highest level of safety and precautionary measures are in place and utilized.
- Prepares as trained for each camper group assigned adapting creatively to inspire campers of varying skill levels and ages. Foster a supportive and educational environment, encouraging campers to challenge themselves and build confidence.
- Maintains a positive, relaxed atmosphere during class time and throughout the day, encouraging conversation and camaraderie among campers.
- Assist, as guided, in daily safety inspections of the course and equipment, performing necessary maintenance or repairs.
- Assist in the caretaking of our equipment, ensuring this is maintained with a keen focus on safety and cleanliness.
- Enforces compliance with camp rules, safety, and health regulations within the learning environment.
- No prior experience? Through our comprehensive training program, you'll gain the skills needed to excel in this role, including Challenge Course facilitation, camper safety, team-building techniques, and certifications in CPR, First Aid, and AED (if not already certified).
3. Community Engagement:
- Actively participate in classes when not in role, contributing to the maintenance of a lively learning environment and fostering engagement.
- Participates enthusiastically as a team member in all-camp activities, evening programs, and special events.
- Actively promotes and embodies the values of Camp Hoblitzelle's summer camp program, fostering an environment that aligns with the camp's mission and principles. - Integrates faith into daily activities, contributing to the spiritual growth and development of campers within the Christian camp community.
4. Program & Activities Assistance:
- Assists with camp program activities and other assigned tasks, collaborating closely with other team members.
- Always promotes quality of programs and safety of campers in cooperation with camp rules and regulations.
- Engages in essential ministry duties, including sharing approved devotional content, participating in prayer sessions with campers, and participating in camp worship times.
5. Safety and Security:
- Ensures the accountability, security, and safety of campers during all camp activities.
- Reports all accidents to supervisors promptly and accurately, following camp procedures.
What we are looking for in you:
- Must be at least 18 years old; high school graduate or GED preferred.
- A heart for others and a mind towards Christ.
- Should be self-motivated and teachable.
- Prior knowledge and skills training in Child Education, Children’s Ministry, Challenge Course or similar field is recommended but not required.
- Ability to obtain Challenge Course certification within established timeframe on-site, C.P.R., First Aid, and A.E.D. Certification (or ability to obtain within established timeframe);
- A willingness to abide by Camp Hoblitzelle’s doctrinal statement and policies.
- CPR & First Aid Certified or capable of passing qualification (Cert. opportunities provided during Staff Training week.)
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Some physical requirements of the Camp Challenge Curse Specialist position could be endurance including climbing, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate nature/environmental education equipment and activities are required. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Have a willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering a program in the facility available. Operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat and varying environmental conditions.

- Challenge Course Training and Camp Staff Orientation will be held 05/28/2025 – 06/08/2025 and participation is required. The 2025 summer Camp program session will be held 06/09/2025 – 07/20/2025. If you are unable to work the entire season, please let us know on your application.
