Position Type: Seasonal full-time (Overnight Residential)

Key responsibilities: 

1. Supervision and Guidance: 

  • Provides leadership, guidance and positive role modeling to campers and staff, ensuring their safety and well-being. 
  • Plans, implements, and coordinates activities and camp programs as needed, according to daily schedule, for an assigned group of campers. 
  • Responsible for supervision of and ministry to high school aged MIRA participants.  Duties include mentoring MIRA participants while leading them in games, work projects, job duties, training, devotions, worship experiences and Bible studies. Under guidance of Camp Director team. 
  • Demonstrates Christian values and principles in all interactions, serving as a positive example for campers. 
  • Demonstrates effective camper behavior management and utilizes appropriate communication and discipline techniques as trained, when required. 
  • Promotes and stimulates camper participation to enhance their overall camp experience. 

 

2. Program & Activities Management: 

  • Plans, develops, coordinates, implements, and evaluates camp programs based on changing needs of campers; develops programs or assists leaders in developing programs to target the enrolled campers. 
  • Coordinates the weekly schedule of events with Camp Leadership Team and Head Counselors and ensures that it is conducive to a pleasant experience for the campers. 
  • Collaborate closely with camp program, instructional staff, and other team members. 
  • Enforces compliance with camp rules, safety, and health regulations for camp activities. 
  • Prepares and maintains up-to-date records and reports on attendance, development progress, and discipline. 
  • Promotes quality of programs and safety of campers in cooperation with camp rules, regulations, and accreditation standards. 

 

3. Camp Community Engagement: 

  • Actively promotes and embodies the values of Camp Hoblitzelle's summer camp program, fostering an environment that aligns with the camp's mission and principles.   • Participates enthusiastically as a team member in all-camp activities, evening programs, and special events. 
  • Integrates faith into daily activities, contributing to the spiritual growth and development of campers within the Christian camp community. 
  • Engages in essential ministry duties, including sharing approved devotional content, participating in prayer sessions with campers, and participating in camp worship times. 

 

4. Safety and Security: 

  • Ensures the accountability, security, and safety of campers during all camp activities. 
  • Reports all accidents to supervisors promptly and accurately, following camp procedures. 
  • Ensure the safety and cleanliness of all program/recreational areas and equipment through daily inspections, addressing needed repairs or replacements, and conducting thorough initial and end-of-session inventories. Properly store equipment to maintain a secure and organized environment. 

 

What we are looking for in you: 

  • Must be at least 18 years old and a high school graduate or GED preferred. 
  • A heart for others and a mind towards Christ. 
  • Should be self-motivated and teachable. 
  • Prior knowledge and skills training in Child Education, Children’s Ministry, Outdoor/Sports Education or similar field is recommended but not required. 
  • Two years progressively responsible experience administering and developing youth programs, and two years of experience leading sports or recreation activities preferred. 
  • A willingness to abide by Camp Hoblitzelle’s doctrinal statement and policies. 
  • CPR & First Aid Certified or capable of passing qualification (Cert. opportunities provided during Staff Training week.

 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: 

Some physical requirements of the Camp Counselor position could be endurance including climbing, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate activities are required. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Have a willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering a program in the facility available. Operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat and varying environmental conditions.

  • Camp Staff Leadership Training and Orientation will be held 05/28/2025 – 06/08/2025 and participation is required. The 2025 summer Camp program session will be held 06/09/2025 – 07/20/2025. If you are unable to work the entire season, please let us know on your application.
