The Summer Camp Head Counselor position at Camp Hoblitzelle provides an exceptional opportunity to lead, mentor, and grow in a vibrant, Christ-centered community. Key responsibilities:
1. Supervision and Guidance:
- Provides guidance and positive role modeling to campers and staff, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Plans, implements, and coordinates the daily schedule for Counselors to ensure appropriate coverage of campers at all times; confirms Counselors receive adequate break times according to daily schedule.
- Demonstrates Christian values and principles in all interactions, serving as a positive example for staff and campers.
- Demonstrates effective camper behavior management. Assists counselors and utilizes appropriate communication and discipline techniques as trained, when required.
- Promotes and stimulates camp counselor and camper participation to enhance their overall camp experience.
2. Camp Leadership:
- Oversees a group of counselors, assisting each counselor in adjusting to camp life. Analyzes the strengths and challenges of each Counselor and provides constructive feedback to each Counselor as a personal growth development opportunity.
- Enforces compliance with camp rules, safety, and health regulations within the camp.
- Maintains precise and current records and reports concerning attendance, development progress, and discipline. Reviews Counselors' submitted reports on attendance, development progress, and discipline, offering a condensed summary of events to the Camp Director(s). Immediately brings significant issues to the attention of the Camp Director for prompt resolution.
- Sits with cabin tables during meals. Maintains a positive, relaxed atmosphere during mealtimes, encouraging conversation and camaraderie among staff and campers.
3. Camp Community Engagement:
- Actively promotes and embodies the values of Camp Hoblitzelle's summer camp program, fostering an environment that aligns with the camp's mission and principles. - Participates enthusiastically as a leadership team member, to deliver and supervise all-camp activities, evening programs, and special events.
- Integrates faith into daily activities, contributing to the spiritual growth and development of staff and campers within the Christian camp community.
4. Program & Activities Assistance:
- Assists counselors with planning quality program activities and other assigned tasks, collaborating closely with camp program, instructional staff, and other team members.
- Promotes quality of programs and safety of campers at all times in cooperation with camp rules and regulations.
- Engages in essential ministry duties, including sharing approved devotional content, participating in prayer sessions with campers, and participating in camp worship times.
5. Safety and Security:
- Ensures the accountability, security, and safety of campers during all camp activities.
- Anticipates safety hazards and initiates contact with supervisors to ensure issues are resolved promptly and accurately, following camp procedures.
- Conduct nightly cabin checks to ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all campers fostering a secure and welcoming atmosphere where every camper can thrive.
- Supervises cabin clean-up and work details, ensuring a safe, clean, and organized camp environment.
What we are looking for in you:
- Must be at least 18 years old and a high school graduate and some college preferred.
- A heart for others and a mind towards Christ.
- Should be self-motivated and teachable
- Ability to build and maintain effective mentor relationships with peers, those in supervision and campers.
- Prior knowledge and skills training in Child Education, Children’s Ministry, Outdoor/Sports Education or similar field is recommended but not required.
- A willingness to abide by Camp Hoblitzelle’s doctrinal statement and policies.
- CPR & First Aid Certified or capable of passing qualification (Cert. opportunities provided during Staff Training week.)
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Some physical requirements of the Camp Head Counselor position could be endurance including climbing, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate activities are required. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Have a willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering a program in the facility available. Operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat and varying environmental conditions.

Camp Staff Leadership Training will be held May 28, 2025 - June 8, 2025, and participation is required. The 2025 Summer Camp session will be held June 9, 2025 - July 13, 2025. If you are unable to work the entire season, please let us know on your application.
