Human Resources Manager II
The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for a Human Resources Manager II for the Houston Area Command, located in Houston, Texas.
Job Summary
Plans, directs, and supervises the work of assigned staff; administers the daily operations of human resources for the Houston Area Command; interviews, screens, and hires employees; prepares and maintains employee paperwork, payroll, and insurance paperwork; develops, prepares, and gives training to staff on various topics; provides guidance to the Area Command and staff on policies and procedures under the guidance and direction DHQ HR.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of employment law and human resources best practices. Knowledge of proper human resources investigatory techniques. Knowledge of general office practices and procedures. Knowledge of standard record keeping practices and procedures. Knowledge of FMLA, workers’ compensation, disability, and insurance programs. Ability to plan, develop, and successfully coordinate human resources programs and special events. Ability to learn and use Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and related computer software both effectively and efficiently. Ability to develop and present suitable training and development materials. Ability to prepare and maintain personnel records in an accurate, complete, and timely manner. Ability to assist with communicating employment policies and procedures in a tactful and courteous manner. Ability to create spreadsheets and reports in an accurate and timely manner. Ability to maintain the confidentiality of personnel information.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, Or five years progressively responsible experience working in all areas of human resources management with at least two years in a supervisory capacity required accompanied by experience working in a non-profit organization preferred, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Certifications: Valid State Driver License, PHR or SPHR (preferred)
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in the English language effectively. Ability to perform both routine and complex mathematical calculations. Ability to type and operate a personal computer as well as general office equipment. Ability to perform all duties with an understanding of the mission, ministry, philosophy, culture, and protocol of The Salvation Army and conducts all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and its Christian principles; conducts all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism. Ability to travel when needed to accomplish assigned job duties. Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting, and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.). Working Conditions: Work is usually performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
