The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for a Donor Services & Cultivation Manager for the Houston Area Command, located in Houston, Texas.  

 

Job Summary

Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, creates and implements short-and-long term strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward individual mid-level donors; oversees a variety of mid-level donor activities and communications to maximize the organization's resources effectively and efficiently while providing appropriate avenues for engaging and recruiting new donors; creates strategies to increase identified and potential donor support; prepares analysis of fundraising activities for development of cultivation and solicitation strategies; implements strategies to elevate midlevel donors where possible to major donor status, ensuring that all aspects of the donor database management system are used to maximize donor cultivation.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of The Salvation Army mission, philosophy, culture, protocol, and organizational structure. Possess excellent project management skills, including the creation and utilization of budgets, timelines, event schedules, and other appropriate tools to facilitate organized, well-run events. Knowledge of the principles and practices of fundraising management. Knowledge of effective and efficient methods for organizing and maintain records and ability to perform the same. Knowledge of intermediate to advanced MS Office and Adobe software programs. Knowledge of the English language including proper grammar and punctuation. Knowledge of the rules and regulations covering the Internet, World Wide Web, and social media.  Demonstrated skill in customer service. Demonstrated skill in interpersonal and written communications. Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing, including the providing of clear instructions to employees. Ability to speak before small and large groups of people. Ability to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate a variety of fundraising strategies to determine their effectiveness in achieving short and long-range goals. Ability to work under pressure of deadlines and time constraints. Ability to establish goals and objectives and monitor their effective implementation. Ability to apply discretion and independent judgment and exercise confidentiality. Ability to be creative in generating ideas and enhancing development programs, as well as demonstrating and practicing the ability to be a self-starter. Ability to perform all duties with an understanding of the mission, ministry, philosophy, culture, and protocol of The Salvation Army and conducts all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and Christian principles; conducts all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism and donor care. Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army. Ability to prepare and maintain reports in an accurate, complete, and timely manner. Ability to work independently and with limited supervision. Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with Salvation Army Officers, employees, member of advisory organizations, donors, and the community.

 

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, marketing, communication, liberal arts, or related field, and three years progressively responsible experience demonstrating a record of accomplishment in donor development, donor support or related, with prior donor management and donor database experience. Or Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. CertificationsValid State Driver’s License. Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) preferred

 

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write and communicate in the English language effectively. Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines and time constraints. Ability and willingness to conduct all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and its Christian principles; conducts all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism. Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting, and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) frequently. Working Conditions: Work may be performed in an office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like but not limited to the office environment due to travel requirements.
