The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Program Coordinator for our Next Chapter Program for the New Orleans Area Command, New Orleans, LA

Job Summary:

Assists student residents in the Next Chapter Program with managing and completion of school requirements.  Works with student residents to obtain appropriate, permanent housing.  Orientate and supervise student residents of the Next Chapter Program to ensure adherence to program policies and restrictions.  Assist residents with adherence to their school requirements.  Collaborates, organizes, and facilitate resident life skills, workshops including financial literacy, time management, and communication.  Assist residents to attain resources necessary to complete program and move to permanent housing.  Inspect apartments and common areas for adherence to program guidelines of cleanliness.  Maintain proper records and statistics for program. Communicate with appropriate education institutions regarding the resident student.  Meets at least weekly with residents to ensure each is on schedule to meet goals; discusses any resident issues and assist in resolving as able or points them to other resources; assists with locating assistance as necessary.  Keeps Director of Social Services informed on all issues regarding New Chapter resident students.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.  Knowledge of The Salvation Army Social Service Programs.  Knowledge of conflict resolution.  Skill in preparing reports and memos.  Ability to work with college-age students.  Ability to maintain a calm demeanor while working through stressful situations.  Ability to motivate students toward goals.  Ability to work with donors, university employees, and community organization.  Ability to communicate needs and issues with higher level management.  Ability to follow instructions and work with limited supervision.  Ability to prepare accurate and complete records and reports.  Ability to participate in The Salvation Army Safe from Harm Training to gain the understanding of appropriately working with students and individuals in the community. 

Experience and Education:

Associate degree from an accredited college or university, and two years of experience working with college or upper high school level students, or any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid Driver’s License and General Office Equipment

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Ability to meet attendance requirements.  Ability to read, write and communicate the English language.  Ability to keypunch information into a computer.  Duties are usually performed seated.  Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. 

Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise dust, dirt and the like.  Work involves driving a vehicle to special events and meetings where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with working in a warehouse during the Christmas Angel Tree Program.
