Location: The Salvation Army – Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi Divisional Headquarters.

 

Position Title: Divisional Christian Education and Safe from Harm Director

Position Type: Full Time

Pay : $42k - $45k

 

About this opportunity:

Plans, develops, coordinates, monitors, and supervises all Christian Education Programs for the ALM Division including youth programs and camping programs.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Manages the Safe from Harm Program throughout the ALM Division; serves as a resource to assist volunteers who serve as teachers /leaders for various programs; ensures all programs are in compliance with The Salvation Army mission; administers the day-to-day office operations to include preparation of statistics and reports, purchasing of supplies, promotion of programs, and administration of department budget.

 

  • Coordinates with DEAMS and participates in the Local Officer Training for the ALM Division; participates in the selection and training of team members; selects curriculum and trains the trainers; serves on DSINC Executive Committee.

 

  • Serves as a constant source of fresh ideas for programs in all matters of classroom procedures including units of study, schedules, educational materials, needed resources, and craft ideas.

 

  • Maintains awareness of new materials in the area of Christian Education; purchases books or magazines that might be helpful to the development of the Christian Education Curriculum Library.

 

  • Maintains and updates the Youth Department website and social media multiple time per week in order to share and advertise events and programs. Share events that are taking place with Corps throughout the Division..

 

  • Prepares monthly youth reports and submits same to Territorial Headquarters; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.

 

SAFE FROM HARM

 

  • Oversees the successful implementation of the Safe from Harm program at all levels of administration, denominational ministry and service within the division; utilizes most current Safe From Harm presentations and training resources designed by THQ to maintain consistency and integrity of training content; works with the Child/Adult Safety Coordinator with Divisional Leadership in developing and following a Safe from Harm Implementation Plan;
  • Schedules and teaches Safe From Harm classes as time allows, as requested by corps officers or the divisional child/adult safety coordinator; maintains records of training classes and attendees in a territorial database (further instructions available from the territorial divisional child/adult safety coordinator); communicates with other SFH trainers to share information and training techniques to enhance quality of training and meet emerging needs as necessary; maintains records of training classes and attendees in a territorial database (further instructions available from the territorial divisional child/adult safety coordinator).
  • Assists Salvation Army corps and social service programs in their effort to implement the National Policy Statement on Sexual Abuse of Children by training staff and volunteers in the Safe From Harm program and advising them as needed or requested in applying the principles and guidelines of Safe From Harm.
  • Coordinates with designated trainers, camp directors and youth secretaries to ensure that all summer camp staff (especially counselors and program staff) completes Safe from Harm training prior to the first camp of the summer season.
  • Contacts local units on a regular basis to ensure that all employees and local leaders/volunteers have completed the Safe from Harm training; ensures that all local units are compliant with Safe From Harm through the completion and submission of an annual Child Protection Audits; regularly updates the Divisional Safe From Harm training Database.
  • Reviews, submits, and makes necessary calls per protocol for any SFH incidents that take place during  Camp; submits reports from all Incident report books collected at the end of each week of Camp.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

 

  • Attends Salvation Army weekly services. Serves as aid in programs to Corps throughout the Division. Wears uniform and attends all Divisional Events and Territorial Events that pertains to position.
  • Assists in preparing the Christian Education budget; monitors expenditures to ensure compliance to budget limitations.

 

  • Prepares and maintains accurate records, lists, logs, and reports regarding Character Building, Jr. Soldiers, Sunday School, camp programming and other youth programs. Assists in grading lessons as needed; reviews curriculum for promotion ideas; prepares resources for same;assists, as needed, with processing of emblems for Guards, Sunbeams and Adventure Corps. 

 

  • Conducts Corps Cadet Classes for divisional events and potentially Regional Corps Cadet gathering for Divisional Corps; follows Divisional Corps Cadets to ensure lessons are up to date and assists them in getting them caught up where necessary.

 

  • Oversees Archery trainings, Challenge Course trainings, Lifeguard trainings, Child Management training, and CPR and First Aid trainings for summer camp; responsible for all scheduling, planning, material preparation, and documentation for same.

 

  • Develops and mails informational flyers to promote various Divisional activities; sends reminders and remembrances to members of Corps.

 

  • Serves as member of the summer camp staff as assigned; prepares program for assigned camps; assists in preparing camp staff manual; assists in planning of camp staff orientation, including speakers and materials for staff development.

 

  • Promotes Divisional and Territorial Sunday School campaigns; sends flyers and campaign details to corps; receives and reviews campaign reports to determine award winners; arranges for awards to be given and plans a victory celebration.

 

  • Types correspondence, minutes, newsletters, bulletins and/or reports in an accurate and timely manner; acknowledges routine correspondence not needed for dictation.

 

  • Compiles information for booklets, kits, notebooks, etc. for Local Officer training, seminars, meetings

 

 

What we are looking for in you:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Education or a related field.  

and

One year experience developing a leading Christian education program for The Salvation Army

or

Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to perform mathematical calculations. Ability to key punch information into a computer. Ability to operate various general office equipment including a telephone, fax machine, copier, video projector, typewriter, computer, and adding machine. Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.

 

 

Work is normally performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like. Work may require driving a vehicle on occasion with exposure to outdoor temperatures and heavy traffic.
